From a not so purists position .. I don't see why this investigation should have anything to do with LSU's L to AU. If none of the money stuff had gone down, and Cam was playing for AU .. we'd still have the L. Had Cam gone to MSU .. we'd likely have an L to MSU. None of this really reflects on Cam himself, IMO. This is more of an issue of the upper brass of AU. Cam would've played somewhere ... money or no.
And not to be a jerk but this is the second time someone has gotten this wrong: It's Racketeering, Influence, and Corrupt Organizations Act. It's the big leagues of federal crimes with huge penalties for organized crime. Ask Edwin Edwards.
There is a reason these schools get handed such stiff penalties. The player involved should never have ever been allowed to play for any university. Which is why the games they participate in are stricken from the record. Not saying it gives LSU the W, but in a way it does eliminate the L. Basically the game never happened.
Actually...No, soooo many people think this but anytime a team is found to have played an inelegible player the NCAA rules is That they VACATE any wins....it does not mean that the forfeit any games or that the loosing team suddenly did not loose......Lsu's loss to auburn would still be a loss for lsu....it just will not be a win for auburn. However...with that being said....if any ruling would come out before the final rankings of the bcs....it could very well influence people in the human polls to vote lsu much higher, but it would not influence the computer polls, because lsu would still have a loss in the computers eyes.
Which is what I mean by, in a way the L is eliminated. Not literally but figuratively in the public’s eyes it could be. Should that happen and we get additional human poll votes it could be enough to elevate our rankings.
The rules have been quoted straight from the NCAA book. If Newton is ruled ineligible before seasons end their wins are FORFEITED, not vacated. If we go undefeated under those premises I don't see how any voter could keep us out of the NC game.
If the majority of claims in that post pan out, it will be the single largest college athletics corruption scandal in modern times. Auburn would become the public face of everything that is wrong with big-time, big-money college football. The SEC would be viewed as incompetent at best, and complicit at worst in their handling of the investigation, particularly with so many boosters and people involved who already have a long history of known/suspected shady dealings in Auburn football. In short, I see no feasible way for the good ole boys to circle the PR wagons this time. The SEC would likely be sufficiently embarrassed to at least appear as if they're making changes. But I suspect that eventually things will go back to business as usual, though it may take several years, unless the NCAA asserts severe oversight.
If au's wins are vacated then we go to Atlanta. Do you think au comes clean to lessen the penalties and forfits the wins on their own before seccg.
AU is going out with a bang, they will not sit Cam. This is Custer's last stand, so Auburn fans better enjoy this ride while it lasts, because they're going to have nothing but misery for years to come.
No I agree with some of the other comments and posts. Auburn is "all in". They will take what ever punishment is coming even if the punishment is to take evrything away. They have been #2 to Bama to long and can't take it anymore.
