I wouldn't rule out a death penalty if all of this is proven. The SEC is a lot bigger than the SWC was and could survive. If that is the case look for Auburn to be kicked from the league and another team brought in it's place. Sad thing is, if all of this is true, he will be looking for a sweet contract in April and all of this wouldn't make one piss of a difference to him. I, for one, hope it's all a big smear CAMpaign. I hate to see things like this happen no matter who is involved.
Agreed. Long before this came to light I was convinced that the recent offseason moves were only the beginning of some major conference reshuffling. The SEC is such a huge money-maker that it wouldn't be that hard to pull in Florida State or A&M within a couple of years. This won't stop until the athletes themselves pay a price for this. Cam and his daddy have gotten everything they wanted out of Auburn, and he'll be a lock for a first-round draft pick. If the pay-for-play allegations are true, they'll go on their merry way to millions of dollars while Auburn's fans are left holding the bag and potentially crippling penalties. If the NCAA is serious about stopping this they need to start some kind of talks with the NFLPA and Goodell about imposing serious, heavy penalties to athletes caught with major violations. And yes, that includes family with their hand stuck deep in the cookie jar. LSU has gone through a lot of pain to keep a clean program. The loss of Perrilloux has still crippled the QB position. If Auburn is guilty then I'm not losing a second of sleep over the actions of their boosters and/or coaches. Again the only people I have sympathy for is the fans who will end up paying the price.
Holy Cow! Imagine the uproar in the ACC, after the ACC virtually destroyed the Big East, to lose FSU to the SEC! (Also, what that would do to the FSU/UF rivalry if they were both SEC teams.)
It will be hard if not impossible to pull in A&M without Texas. Texas has more reasons to stay than join SEC. Fla State is a possibility though. What if Cam et al are innocent? Not looking at this through rose colored glasses, but the accusers are sleaze balls and why should we believe rumors at this time? There is a lot of smoke but I would hate to railroad both the kid and Auburn on the word of the ones like Bond, King & Bell. It also appears Moo State continued recruiting Cam after the alleged play for pay demand. Documentation is needed. This is a fluid situation and all I see and hear is speculation and Joe Shad is pulling a Herbstriet (Miles to Mich) with reporting based on nuances and hearsay. That said if the charges are true I agree they all should pay. Whatever happens we can hold our heads high because Miles & LSU demand a clean pprocess and we recruit character with character.
Let's be honest. Aside from a handful of programs like VT, Miami and FSU, the ACC is a joke, and the Big East has been one for years. I would think if FSU could make the jump they'd do it in a heartbeat with the TV deal, revenue sharing, and yes, the UF rivalry.
Who is Auburn's #2 QB? Secondly, if nothing happens today, and Auburn wins ... the SEC should step up their review. If there truely is fire there, the SEC should keep Aub out of the SECCG and the NC to minimize the black eye.
Seriously, kicked out of the league? I just can't see that. I can see serious sanctions that would knock Auburn down to the bottom tier of the league for years; but a founding member kicked out I just don't see. But I really hope there is nothing to any of this; and if there is I really hope it was the player and maybe one coach and not a 'institutional' thing. But it seems to me over the years there are a few Auburn big money bag alums who feel like they own the program. If one of them did something stupid and participated in paying a player to commit the university should ban them from stadium.
