Again, the wild card on that issue is the FBI. NCAA has no subpoena power which might have contributed to it taking 4 years to run down the Reggie Bush mess. But tracing money is what the FBI does, and if Cecil Newton is involved in anything shady, he's in the deep excrement now.
off topic ... but SMU used to be chauk full of a smoking hot .. rich as hell babes. I mean ... all the looks that money could buy!! Anyway .. back to Auburn:wave:
I guess this is being picky, but the UNC players ACCEPTED benefits from agents, and Dez Bryant wasn't suspended for hanging with Deion Sanders, he was suspended for lying to the NCAA about hanging with Sanders.
Just in from WSB in the ATL Exclusive: Cam Newton's Dad Admits Money Talks, Says Source Cecil Newton Stresses Son's Hands Are Clean Exclusive: Cam Newton's Dad Admits Money Talks, Says Source - Sports News Story - WSB Atlanta ATLANTA -- While Auburn University quarterback Cameron Newton has had to overcome more than tacklers in his well-chronicled, redemptive run to college football stardom, his dad has been scrambling in recent days to explain his own actions. A source close to the situation exclusively told Channel 2 Action News investigative reporter Mark Winne that the player's father, Cecil Newton, has admitted having conversations with an ex-Mississippi State University player about the possibility of under-the-table money if Cam Newton signed to play football at Mississippi State, though he's steadfastly maintained that no money ever changed hands and said no official at Mississippi State ever made such an offer. According to Winne’s source, Cecil Newton said his son’s hands are clean, and has made it clear that Cam Newton himself and his mother knew nothing about the money discussions, nor did Auburn University, with whom the Westlake High School grad from College Park eventually signed with out of junior college. Winne’s source, who acknowledged sympathies on the Newton side of things, said the player and both parents have demonstrated a willingness to cooperate with the NCAA, beyond even the financial records turned over by the family, and from churches Cecil Newton oversees.
Interesting discussion on Memphis Sports Talk Radio (AM560) this afternoon. Basically they were saying that if Cam or his father actually asked for or discussed something “more than a scholarship” (i.e. simply ask for pay for play) to get to Cam to sign with State, that could make Cam ineligible to play --- anywhere whether or not any money was ever actually paid by anyone to anyone. They were saying it did not matter that he did not sign with the Dogs. So no matter what Auburn did or did not do – CAM would be ineligible as soon as he or his father actually asked for money from State. Auburn may have no choice but to bench him until it is settled. They talking heads on the radio also said that as soon as Auburn knew he had an eligibility problem, any games he plays in could be subject to forfeiture if CAM is determined to be ineligible even if Auburn was not involved in the pay for play stuff. ldskule: ldskule:ldskule:
Yep if the source is correct and Cecil admitted to discussing money, Cam is ineligible according to NCAA rules no matter what Cam knew or didn't know. (Cam not knowing isn't likely) AU can play him all they want unless the NCAA suspends him but AU will pay for it later on.
this is the Auburn's new TE commit Dakota Mosley Uploaded with ImageShack.us wonder where he got the stacks of cash from?
