Apparently what happened, according to what I've been reading is that Miss State reported to the SEC and NCAA in January that there had been some impropriety regarding Cam Newton's recruitment and that because of that, they had chosen not to recruit him, and that it needed to be looked into. The investigators replied to Miss State and asked them to provide more detail and to clarify if they were making any specific accusations. Miss State did not reply until June/July timeframe. They were asked to provide more information again in August/Sept, and did so. ................and then now things are basically a huge mess and Auburn is screwed.
They are going to say they wanted no part of it and in reality they may have all paid him. If he admits they all paid him it will be more charges on cam's dad. Using the money in a non-profit does rate an fbi investigation.
What sucks is Auburn will just have their MNC taken away from them, title left open, Newton will give back his trophy, and cash his first round draft bonus and the NFL will act like nothing ever happened. IMO, this sheatt never stops UNTIL the athlete is the one that is affected, you get caught while in school, you are done and CANNOT be drafted for AT LEAST one year.............the NFL is the key to stopping this BS. If you are already in the NFL and you get caught for what you did in college you are immediately suspended for a lengthy period of time.........in current season, done for year, and possibly more, between seasons, out for at least one year maybe more. If you are a booster/agent you go to jail. The school is the ONLY entity that ever gets any punishment. Just IMHO!:geauxtige
Wow - this is the first time this whole fiasco makes sense to me. If this is how this whole scenario went down then I can understand how ticked off Dan Mullen is and why he would pull the trigger to unleash all these reports going all the way back to his Florida days with Cam. IF this is truly how things went down. Honestly, what does Aubarn have besides Newton? Kodi Burns would be their QB and they would be 5-3 right now or worse. MSU on the other hand is 6-2 without a top-tier QB. It's easy for me to believe that if Newton had went to MSU (as Mullen expected) that they would be 8-1 or 9-0 right now. They have a better D than Aubarn in my opinion.
I think this investigation gets rolling faster than most think...there is too much at stake with the NC and trophy on the line. Especially with the Reggie Bush fiasco that just ended.
Or they could just use the millions of dollars these kids make the universities and the NCAA and pay them all a flat amount.
yeah, rules are rules, regardless how stupid they are. The teams that follow the rules shouldn't have to suffer as a result of those that don't.
IMO: I don't think Chizik new anything, and I am sure Cam did not receive money either. However, if immediate family received the money that is no different than Cam receiving himself as far as the NCAA is concerned. Cam knows more than he is saying. Cecil knows everything obviously. Auburn admin probably never officially knew anything. Chizik probably still knows nothing and desperately wants to believe his star player when he tells his coach I did nothing wrong. At some point you have to use common sense if you are the AD at Auburn and say.....something is not right here and we are going to make Cam ineligible to save our ass further trouble down the road. The problem is if they do they will not have a chance for the NC game. They are absolutely SCREWED......PERIOD. Obviously the smart thing long term is for all involved to lay it out there now, but people who are in the forest cant see the trees. Outsiders can see that it is inevitable that the truth will eventually come out. The only question is when, who else was involved, and how much cash changed hands?
Did yall hear that Joe Schad was on Finebaum and Auburn fans are calling in threatening Joe Schad, telling him stuff like if he comes to the Georgia game, he is going to get his jaw broken and crap like that? Finebaum is like Jerry Springer, geez.
