I was gonna ask this very question. To answer the question of the thread, that was my concern in a post in one of the other threads. I think this isn't a good thing for the entire SEC, which is one of the reasons I don't understand some people basking in glory over this. Them getting crushed for this benefits us in no way. It won't give us the win back for that game, nor will it have any bearing on this season to help us get to the SECCG or MNC.
I feel that it would be better for LSU to win a championship on the feild....not as the result of a program that fell from grace.....
FBI has opened in investigation. Cam Newton Investigation: FBI Request Interview With John Bond Cam Newton NCAA Drama Ignites FBI Investigation | TMZ.com
Here's what I don't understand. MSU has stated that it contacted the SEC office as soon as it learned of the alleged shakedown. I've got to believe that the SEC notified every conference school. If that's the case, would Auburn sign Cam without making as sure as it could that there was no funny business? Auburn would have to know that under the circumstances, the signing would be a least suspect and probably investigated.
The NCAA does not tie themselves to such evidence. In the Logan Young, Albert Means case, there was no money trail back to Young. Circumstantial evidence from two so-called "secret witnesses" that never took it beyond hearsay and a "perception" that the Means family enjoyed a $30,000 sudden spike in their quality of life, was the final conclusion the NCAA went with. Bank statements back to Young never incriminated the accused nor did it exonerate Alabama. To suggest that the NCAA does business as a Judicial court of law or hold themselves to that standard would be misleading. There are many subplots going on now that could put Auburn in deep hockey.
Newton's play this weekend Don't know if I missed a post on this but anybody care to guess whether or not this distraction affects his play against Georgia?
why would Cecil Newton come out and say, "I am not going to confirm or deny nothing" If he is innocent, why not come out and say, "my son didn't take any money"
I thought about that. It might affect his teammates, but not Newton. Regardless of how things pan out, Cam has gotten what he wanted out of Auburn, which was basically a one-season audition tape for NFL scouts. As for everyone worried about the SEC's reputation, I think that's taking it overboard. Who was worried about the sanctity of the Pac-10's reputation, in the national media or elsewhere, after USC got big-time busted in not one, but two sports? It's just another circus that will die down once Cam declares for the draft.
