Waiting period and parental notification before termination of minor's pregnancy. Failed. So now a 13 year old can go find a doctor, get an abortion, and the parents can stay in the dark. I know all the arguments about fear of abuse, etc but there were provisions for that. A kid can get kicked out of school for having a Tylenol, parents can go to jail if their children don't go to school, you have to be 18 to get your ears pierced without parental consent. It makes little sense.
A large portion of black people are very religious and against gay marriage, with that said your post is a tad bit misguided. I am religious as well, my opinion, i dont care if they get married, let them experience some of the hell that I experience. We had a similar measure here in florida, asking about marriage being strictly between a man and woman. It passed with about 63%. I voted against it, because the far reaching implications of the measure will kill civil unions and domestic partnerships. You failed to mention that blacks make up 4% of the electorate in CA, so to put it at the feet of blacks and latinos is very wrong imo.Whites and other ethnic groups make up the majority of the electorate. Also, the anger should be directed at the Mormon church with their monetary campaign for this issue. I dont equate gender to race either, but thats another topic of discussion.
Do not forget that California is the melting pot of the left coast. Folks from all walks of life live here and that factors in heavier then gender or race.
7 out of ten blacks voted Yes on 8. That was the highest in terms of ratio by group. Latinos were right up there. Total number isn't the key but opinions held by each group are. The Mormon church is getting picketed and that's fine with me. Consequently the largest donator to the No on 8 fund was from attorneys. You may not make the equation but gays most certainly do. They see it as clear cut discrimination by a minority description that is, by law, protected in every other aspect. I live very near to Saddleback Church which was the site for the Presidential "summit" held recently and moderated by Rick Warren. Yesterday I drove through the intersection by the main gate and there were No on 8 protesters at every corner. A bit late but the funniest sign ever........"No More Mr. Nice Gay".
