i dont think anyone would make an argument against the word of god if they believed it to be the actual word of god. and unfortunately for some people they didnt have the same advantages and good fortune to be in a situation that led to christianity, like you have had. it is not something i chose, to not believe. i could sooner force myself to believe that you can levitate than be christian. i could try forever and i could never make myself believe what appears obviously stupid, from my perspective. being sane and rational can be quite a burden.
I've seen and heard of grapefruit size tumors disappearing inexplicably after a terminal cancer patient has many prayers said on their behalf. Why would a belief such as this be "less enlightened" after seeing the evidence?
I know some very distinguished scientists who are also religious. But these men have the ability to separate scientific matters from matters of faith. The two issues only have to be mutually exclusive if one foolishly attempts to justify faith through science or tries to justify science through faith. It should be noted that many tumors disappear inexplicably anyway, whether or not prayer is involved.
do you have a prayer meter which goes off detecting if a tumor was actually prayed to go away? talk about scientific.
well, one time i had a bit of a cough, and my religion says that jesus loves ritual sacrifice. so i threw a goat into a volcano and i got better. i mean, look at the evidence! seriously though, for the people who question my points about the power of indoctrination and fear and guilt being a powerful force to make people religious, TRandrew is a good example. here we have a guy who is presumably not retarded , and in fact likely smarter than any of us with his 157 iq, and he is basically showing the understanding of medicine of a peasant of two thousand years ago. right, i am sure there are plenty low level university scientists who are perfectly competent and christian. my dad is sort of an example. he was a research chemist, which of course is a scientist, but he was nothing special. when i say the "elite" scientits, i mean the kind of guys who are making history. the einsteins and feynmans, who are the first to understand relativity, or pioneers in quantum theory or something. these guys are far too rational to be christians. and the stats back me up. only a tiny fraction of the top scientists even believe in god, and even less are christian. the way i see it, if you are reasonably smart, you should be able to escape your christian indoctrination by about age 20 or. but i am wrong, and that doesnt happen. plenty of peeps can never break out.
look, if a person gets better, it was prayer, if they get worse, it is satan overpowering jesus, case closed. you cant argue with evidence.
who are you disagreeing with, andrew for claiming the prayer worked, or red pointing out that at least sometimes, tumors can retreat without being chased away by prayer?
