Oh yeah, What are the republicans going to do? Promise eight more years of endless conflict? Or are they going to offer a plan for getting back on track with the almost forgotten War on Terror. They damn sure can't do nothing if they expect to win the presidency. There are insurgents in Iraq taking advantage of the opportunity to hit easy American targets. These people didn't exist until we went there. The AL Qaida cells that hit us with the USS Cole, the WTC, and Pentagon attacks are still out there plotting to attack us again. The occupation of Iraq only hurts the fight against these guys by distracting us, impoverishing us, and depriving us of the international cooperation we need to fight an international enemy. We never lost to the Vietnamese either, but we still had to leave at some point because we were being ineffective and it was hurting us more that it was helping us. Look we've already won the war! It took 21 days and we sacked the place! What else do we have to prove? What we are doing now is making no progress at all. What constitutes "victory" in this endless occupation? Tell me that, and be specific. Just how are we supposed to know when we have "won". What threat are the Iraqis to Americans once we take our troops out of their range? They can kill each other, which suits me fine. What is it that you don't like about that? We are going to need our troops elsewhere before long. I say we won the war, we captured Saddam, and the WMD's were a myth. What are we doing hangin' around?
You are wrong, there are Al Quada which are terrorists in Iraq right now. I have a VHS tape that shows terrorist camps in Iraq in the news as we invaded. Is Al Quada what you would call insurgents? If we leave Iraq now we lose, plain and simple because the terrorists win! The terrorists Win not to mention that Iraq will turn into chaos and either Al Quada or Civil War will be the result. Just like what happened in Afghanistan when the Soviets left. If we left we would have to invade again at a future date to run Al Quada out of Iraq. Its not about the Iraq its about the Al Quada and the terrorists that are there now. This isn't close to the Vietnam situation since there were no terrorists in Vietnam when we left. Look at what happened when we cut and run from Somolia. OBL decided to attack us because we cut and run, he thought we were weak. They all want us Dead, they don't like us, we never did anything to them! They are radical as in crazy, us leaving Iraq will NOT stop them from attacking us. This is why I think Democrats have very little chance of winning anytime soon. I don't think they really understand the situation. I am not taking shots at you Red, I hope you understand that. Just trying to have a intelligent conversation on this subject. What happened before we went into Iraq has nothing to do with what is happening today. I wish we could go back and live life before 9-11 and we can't. The 90's were a false sense of security anyway since we were attacked then by Al Quada. I would rather have the cold war and have the Soviets to deal with versus a bunch of renegades or lunatics such as Al Quada. Then, man for man, you know what who your dealing with. The question really is, what price is everyone in this country willing to sacrifice with this situation in Iraq. Some more than others... EDIT: I'm not saying that there aren't Insurgents in Iraq, just saying there is also terrorists there.
Btw, Democrats will have a tougher time getting elected as long as Liberal judges goes against the country and its service men such as the ruling releasing more pictures of Abu Ghrab. Those soldiers responsible have been tried and found guilty. It doesn't help *anyone* in this country when this happens. It seems like the Democrats would be smart enough, I acknowledge there are ways that Dems could take advantage of the situation but they don't seem to be smart enough. They are too busy with the Vietnam template and rehashing talking points from the past. I don't see the Democrats benefitting at all from Bush's blunders or his ratings. Democrats are their own worst enemies today if you ask me!
