I just discovered an interesting tidbit. Scooter Libby actually represented Mark Rich during the time he was in prison and was instrumental in gaining his pardon. Libby's power's of persuasion seem to be second to none.

Second to a special prosecutor with no checks and balances such as Ken Starr, Peter Fitzgerald and Nifong from NC.
The justice system and these witch hunts are what is second to none especially when politics enter the equation.

Never trust a politician including congress or politics at face value and that
can be said for special prosecutors and councils as well.

A agree. I have been critical of Bush when I felt he deservied it. I was no big fan of Clinton, but when he did something right, I applauded him for it.

As I have applauded Bush on the two issues that he did something right on. Both of you two have defended Bush far beyond reason on most issues.

Ken Starr was a Special Independent Councel appointed by the a three-judge panel in the Judicial Branch.

Fitzgerald was Special Counsel appointed by the Attorney General in the Executive Branch.

Nifong was a District Attorney elected by the people of his district.

By whose measure? If I defend Bush, it's because I agree with his decision. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean my opinion is "far beyond reason". That's an arrogant attitude if you ask me.

Some comments on the linked article:
    1. It's nearly a year old. It was bull**** then, and it's bull**** now.

    2. Fitzgerald didn't lie about Libby being the first to talk to reporters, he wasn't aware of the Woodward connection at the time.

    3. Fitzgerald never indicted Armitage because he couldn't prove that he knew Plame was covert (i.e. he couldn't prove there was a crime) and he always came clean and testified truthfully (at a minimum Fitzgerald couldn't prove otherwise). Scooter lied about his actions and never has come clean. We don't know if the Plame outing was criminal or not, but Fitzgerald believes that Scooter's lies have obstructed him in making that determination.

    4. The fact that Armitage was first is irrelevant. It's a crime to knowingly reveal this information to people who are not authorized to receive it. Armitage telling Woodward 1st would not in itself make Scooter immune when telling Miller.
