Well then, let's just fill up a huge conference room and we'll all vote on it. You're aware of the concept of representation? The people had a say in going into Iraq through their elected Representatives. They approved it. Now those same representatives are deciding whether to stay the course or cut and run.

Maybe the White House should send out a massive email with the daily security briefings so all of us smart people could have a say in what to do. You, me and everybody else are nothing. The only power you have is on Election day. Majority rules. Get over it.

Evidence? We are among the least foolish people on earth. Why do you hate Americans so much?

The people of this country have fully supported just wars, wars that are in our national interests, and wars that make sense to us. Only Vietnam and Iraq have the people not supported . . . and for good reason--they are not in our national interests and became snowballing disasters.

People of this country have no stomach for stupid wars.

Are you kidding? Do you imagine that 450,000 dead and 650,000 wounded were not noticed by the population? Windows everywhere were full of gold stars. We certainly had comprehensive radio and press coverage of the war and very little censorship of war correrspondants and most of that was short term to avoid giving information to the enemy during a campaign. It all came out in a few months.

World War II was a TOTAL WAR, unlike all subsequent ones. There was a total call up of the reserves, There was a total draft. Citizens had to go on rations. There were hardships. No new cars were built for four years as all domestic industry retooled for war production. Women woked in the factories. Boy Scouts ran scrap metal drives. We fought in five major theatres. We killed enemy civilians by the millions. Germans killed them by the tens of millions. 72 million people died in that war and it was no secret.

Everybody American had a personal interest in the war. It was total war.

Deciding whether to dig the hole deeper or dig their way out. Deciding to continue the course of failure or find a new course. Deciding to be fooish or wise.

True dat, Mon ami. There will be more flushing out of stupid and spineless polititcians in 2008. 2006 was just a preview. If we are still losing 100 soldiers a month and Iraq continues to deteriorate in the fall, Republicans are going to start jumping ship like rats if they expect to be re-elected.

No, I'm not kidding. Roosevelt created the Office of War Information to censor all press reports. No images of the dead were allowed. They only heard what the government wanted them to hear. Sure they knew soldiers were dying, but they didn't get the complete truth at the time it was happening. I can only imagine your outrage at Bush if he did the same.

You're dreaming if you don't believe live updates of a war affects people's view of the war.

He has a bit more experience than that. He was minority counsel for the Senate Watergate hearings. He is a member of the Counsel on Foreign Relations.

Oh, and let's not forget he was head of the CIA in No Way Out, and had an impressive military record in The Hunt for Red October.:hihi:

Big difference between WWII and VN or Iraq. In WWII, we were attacked big time by the Japs at Pearl Harbor, wiping out a big chuck of the Pacific Fleet. VN ever do that, Iraq ever do that in 2002-2003? No. That's the difference.

Germany and Japan were taking over country after country, invading, conquering, raping and plundering. Ever heard of the Rape of Nanking? We knew they were big, bad and dangerous, and they put a serious military hurt on us at Pearl.

When Saddam went into Kuwait, there was no squawk about kicking him out from anyone, clearly he was trying to steal a country, and it was a just war.

If we are attacked or really threatened, I think we'll be in it for good. When we are fighting discretionary wars where we weren't attacked, why should we press it. If you can win quick at little cost, like Kosovo, that's ok. If you are not achieving a strategic aim, and you're bleeding out at high cost, get out.
