How many times do I have to point out that when the decision was made to go after Saddam, the wreckage at the WTC was still smoldering as were the emotions of 99.9% of Americans? Americans were in no mood to phucque around with despots like Hussein and it took very little convincing to authorize his removal from the planet. Make no mistake, at some point in the recent pre-9/11 history there were WMDs in Iraq.

After the short term horror went away, political expediency became the order of the day and Bush was unmercifully attacked for doing something that everybody wanted done. :911:

You are shifting the topic. I know the war started with Bush.

Your original point was that he went half-cocked with no popular support. My point was that there was massive popular support for the war from both Democrats and Republicans. Even people like John Kerry were sounding like hawks on that issue at the time.

I don't think people expected him to invade and occupy the place. That's not what we did in 1991, for very good reason. It's not what we did in Afghanistan, that was a special forces war and we were the insurgents using Afghan allies who would actually fight.

I think people expected another bombing campaign to force Saddam to give in to UN inspections. Nobody dreamed that he would get us fighting another Vietnam-type of guerrilla insurgency in someone else's civil war. We were promised a quick "shock and awe" war, a blitztrieg ground attack, soldiers would be cheered as liberators by grateful Iraqis who would then roll up their shirtsleeves and build a democracy with our help.

The popular support was for the War on Terror, not for the occupation of Iraq. Public support for Iraq has plummeted ever since Bush told us that the mission was accomplished in spring of 2003.

This Bush and excuses of going into Iraq, true or not and this thread reminds
me of the fact that global warming is the reason for everything.
From earthquakes, tornados, hot weather, cold weather, etc.

I really think its stupid to still debate the whole issue of going there in the first place.
We are there and the Dummycrats in government approved it.
Its amazing that we are still going down this road, its water under the bridge
we are there whether any of us like it or not!

If you want to blame Bush and impeach him I have no problem with that btw.
No security at teh borders, border patrol morale along with those 2 agents
    in jail!

The problem is that we are looking at yet another Turd Sandwich vs. Giant Douche election.

Aren't there any good candidates out there somewhere?

There is a chance Fred Thompson may run. I hoped he would run when he was in the Senate, or at least be picked as a VP candidate. I have always been impressed by him.

I really like FT too, but doesn't he have cancer? I can't see him getting elected if his health is in jeopardy.
