I always liked the verses of that song but not the chorus (which you quoted). I started rebelling against pop music around the time Kid Rock became popular so I never gave him a chance. I'm sure he's talented but didn't think he ever seemed likeable.
I can't disagree. That's what makes music the ultimate bridge. As for RVZ, I have to agree with lsu99. The verse isn't anywhere near the best part of that song although in total context, the song sends a message. "Angel of darkness is upon you. Stuck a needle in your arm So take another toke, have a blow for your nose One more drink fool, will drown you. Lynyrd was singing about life in that time. And one of my favorites.... Well this life that I've lead has took me everywhere There ain't no place I ain't never gone But its kind of like the saying that you heard so many times Well there just ain't no place like home Did you ever see a she-gator protect her young Or a fish in a river swimming free Did you ever see the beauty of the hills of Carolina Or the sweetness of the grass in Tennessee And Lord I can't make any changes All I can do is write 'em in a song I can see the concrete slowly creepin' Lord take me and mine before that comes Do you like to see a mountain stream a-flowin' Do you like to see a youngun with his dog Did you ever stop to think about, well, the air your breathin' Well you better listen to my song And Lord I can't make any changes All I can do is write 'em in a song I can see the concrete slowly creepin' Lord take me and mine before that comes I'm not tryin' to put down no big cities But the things they write about us is just a bore Well you can take a boy out of ol' Dixieland But you'll never take ol' Dixie from a boy And Lord I can't make any changes All I can do is write 'em in a song I can see the concrete slowly creepin' Lord take me and mine before that comes 'Cause I can see the concrete slowly creepin' Lord take me and mine before that comes
Oh no, don't get me wrong the majority of KR's song's are terrible......the one's I listed I do like though in their acoustic versions.
I live about 10 minutes from the Cynthia Woods Pavillion in The Woodlands (north Houston) and there are a lot of good bands/musicians that play there. There is a nice park with a lake that people hang out during concerts because you can hear the music well and alcohol is allowed. I often go there for bands that somewhat interest me but aren't important enough to make a point of buying tickets. Kid Rock has played there a few times but I've never gone to listen. I may the next time because I do like an acoustic sound at times (and out of general curiosity of whether his concerts are more geared towards the old rap/rock sound or acoustic).
I'm not sure if KR plays acoustic sets at his concerts, I've never been to one.......but I've been to a few at the CWP in the woodlands. We make an annual Dave Matthews trip out that way, really a great place to stay for the weekend......love the pool area.
KR was at JazzFest a couple of years ago. Great concert. When I really changed my attitude about him though was watching an episode of West Coast Choppers when he and Jesse James rode their bikes through Mexico. They both were just enjoying riding and being non-famous.
Here's Imelda May with English Rocker Jeff Beck an' some serious stuff.... She bounce up and down and go here kitty kitty kitty kitty...
