Maybe i went to far saying they didnt have a chance, but if there's any defense to stop Auburn's running game it's LSU. I was just a little pumped up, and didnt like the tone of the Auburn fan.
I am not sure why you think that Mauck is not better than JC. In my mind, Mauck is clearly FAR superior to JC in every aspect of the game. JC doesn't throw a ton of pics because he never throws the ball. If he throws pics because they are tipped or because he is hit during his throw, you better be prepared for 3 INTs vs LSU. He will be hit A LOT unless you come out like FL and run a no huddle quick passing offense (which AU could not do with JC). If you look at Mauck's INTs, most are on the long ball and they don't kill us as badly as say a screen pass picked for a TD. If Mauck was the starting QB at AU, you would still be ranked #1. I have 0 respect for JCs ability to throw the ball. Agree 100%. Going to be interesting. But I think that keeping you to under 200 yard rushing would mean almost a certain loss for AU if our offense plays as well as it did tonight. I agree with some of your 3 out of 4. Get 3 of those and that team should win with one change. 3) Can Auburn make the big pass play against LSU (2 TDs against broken coverage). I think that AU will need them. I don't agree with your opinion for #1, but that will be decided at game time. When our passing game is clicking and our O-line decides to hit someone, our running game is tricky and very hard to stop. I really think that our running game will once again be decided by LSU, not the opposing D. Another point about #1 is "Will AU get a pass rush that causes LSU to not be able to pass effectively". No one has this year. Even against UGA he had time to throw the ball. Agreed. Both are good game day coaches and both always have their team prepared from a "technical game plan" point of view.
Quoted by Chuck, That being said, you will have a hard time convinceing me that Mauck is a better qb than Campbell. I'm not saying JC is better than Mauck either - I think they are they pretty close. JC is not going to throw a ton of pics. Matt doesn't usually throw a bunch of pics, I don't know why he's throwing 1 a game versus the good teams we've played this year so I understand what your saying there. However, Matt Mauck came in the SEC Championship game and rallied us to win that game after being down 10 points to Tennessee, What big time game has he won for you guys? Quoted by Chuck Its going to be fun watching our offensive strenght vs. your defensive strength. I think you are kidding yourselves if you think you will shut down our running game (I'll call than less than 175 total yards rushing). 1) I'll give you 125 yards rushing for a cushion, but I doubt it. I think your kidding yourself if you think you can get over that. Quoted by captainpodnuh, Auburn will try to build on what they did today by evaluating what LSU did to stop USC's running attack. You have to admit that 15 carries for 150 yards and 6 TDs is unbelievable. I beg to differ, How many yards did they get against ARK? MSU doesn't count, that team is totally dead and depleated, they don't even have a coach anymore. BTW If you look at the archives from last week, Yardbird predict: LSU 34 USC 7 This week LSU 21 Aub 10
As much as I hate to say this....Auburn is the team to beat in the SEC right now. If we take care of business next saturday...theres no looking back. As far as being matched up, I think both teams are pretty even with coaching as the independant variable. :geaux:
Just my humble $0.02 worth Is this what SEC football is all about , or what ?!!! I love it ! This game might come down to who has the most "Will" to grind it out. I don't believe either team will be able to rush for big yards. I see AU getting about 120 yards and LSU getting about 60-70 yards. Turnovers, Special teams and passing will likely decide the outcome. LSU will blitz early and often in an attempt to rattle JC like early in AU's season. AU will attempt same with Mauck. Whchever QB can better execute enough early-passing to provide the balance needed to open up a running game, will likely lead his team to the "W". Interceptions are a much bigger risk with Mauck than with JC. Special Teams - Green is deadly and can change the outcome of a game. Auburn MUST stop him at all costs. Yost has been selected full time kicker for AU - he can consistently make the long ones. Turnovers - I see AU having a slight advantage here, mainly due to Mauck's tendencies. He consistently telegraphs his passes (actually so does JC - but he throws less) and he can expect a ton of different "looks" out of the AU D for this game. Chizik is throwing the kitchen sink at Mauck for this go-'round.
Re: Just my humble $0.02 worth Are you sure that you are not an LSU tiger??? That looks like something I could have written. This looks like the definitive balanced analysis of the game to me. Good post.
Thanks, gotta call 'em like I see 'em. I'll pull for Auburn, but I'm not one of those "blind" loyalists.......*grin*
And I think the team with the most "will" will be LSU. Our backs are up against the wall. If we lose, we are totally screwed. We would have to depend on you losing your last three games and Ole Miss to stumble. So I think that this is do or die for LSU. I don't think that it is for AU. If AU loses, they just need for LSU to slip up once more (which is highly likely with Ole Miss, Bummer, and Arky left on the schedule). An AU loss does not mean certain doom for them. It does for LSU. We have more to lose so we will play with more urgency (or more butterflies... DOH!).
Mauck has 12 TDs to 6 INTs while Campbell has 5 TDs with 3 INTs, so they both roughly have a 2:1 TD to INT ratio. Both are accurate passers percentage wise with Mauck completing 63.2% of his passes and JC completing 61.4%. It comes down to on the field leadership which I feel Mauck has more of than JC. LSU wins this one by 10.
