Davey and Reed were the ultimate playground QB and receiver combo. There has never been another QB and receiver at LSU that could turn a sure sack and loss of yards into a pass play where Reed broke off his route and improvised while Rohan avoided the sack, scrambled and hit Reed. Ask Alabama what 500 plus passing yards in one game feels like. Sadly though I think Davey threw for more yards in that game than every LSU QB combined in the last 4 or 5 years vs Alabama.
So did every one else. Don't know if you recall or not but Spurrier didn't have any trouble throwing on everyone when he was at Florida.
He makes a good point though about Alabama spending more money on their program though. They spend about 31.6 million, LSU spends about 21.5 million.
You think that doesn't help? Not everyone is good enough to put a quality product out there on the cheap. Boise State was very good at it, but we are talking 10 million dollar difference between us and Alabama. Where is that money going? Recruiting services I expect, maybe facilities, hell im not sure.
Good points...I know LSU can spend less on travel, etc...given most of our targets are local and LA is usually stacked with talent. Bama has and is very successful in casting a wider net out of necessity though because there is nealy as much talent locally. I would have no idea how to quantify the difference though and assume it is less than $10M.
10 million extra per year is pretty striking. Where does that put us nationally? It almost makes what they're doing more expected. Think some of that goes to refs and whatnot?
Here's the article with the figures... http://www.businessinsider.com/schools-spend-most-money-football-team-2012-1?op=1/#-clemson-2 Keep in mind this is 2012 so these numbers are probably way different. I should have stated the info I listed was older.
