And, yet, that is where we are. The politically correct culture has finally become so mainstream that a person can only parrot "progressive " talking points...or be accused of being evil and wrong.
Maybe people aren’t mad at him for “standing up for America?” Maybe they’re mad because he’s prioritizing standing for the flag, an inanimate object, over objecting to racism and/or police brutality? No one is anti-American; that’s rhetoric to euphemize the Brees supporters. The whole “love America as it is or leave” argument is a fallacy. The people kneeling were trying to make the country better through peaceful protest, as the founding fathers intended. The country needs upkeep too; we can’t just remain stagnant through time. People who are trying to perform or incentivize that upkeep are looking out for the country just the same.
This is a really compelling argument. I do hate the tyranny of the majority that takes place in the public realm. I’ve got to chew on this one for a while. It may be the new thought police.
The flag isn't an inanimate object, just like the country isn't just land. The flag, obviously, represents ideals, those on which the country is founded, and by which the institution of slavery was finally destroyed after it had a place in every human society to that point. People should criticize and protest society's inability to live up to American ideals, but not the very ideals themselves. Those ideals must be preserved and defended at every turn.
If a flag isn’t an inanimate object in your view, then I can’t continue this conversation haha. You can argue it represents more, but it’s lifeless in and of itself.
Wait, so what was the purpose of kneeling during the national anthem then? Or disrespecting the flag? Did they think it was just bad music, or that the flag was just kind of ugly? Because if the flag is just an inanimate object, then why would they protest it?
