Starting a new thread on LaFell is actually a pretty good idea, many people haven't read that other thread and little is known about this freshman. I think it is much better to accidentally post something that has already been talked about than to take a chance of us missing something, especially when you consider all of the threads about JR, RP and the stadium construction.
That other thread sucks anyway. By the time Loco and Co. were done with it, I had no idea who said what. So onto Lafell, are you guys hearing that he seriously might not redshirt?? Wow...he's either really good, or CLM has some bizarre formations in mind.
Based on that other thread...you know, the one that sucks...that's why I'm asking. I live in Houston and I don't hear squat.
well since it sucked i dont remember. i havent heard any legit report of that possibility. i also dont think we will ever have a team in our history more deep at WR or RB. ever. never, no way. maybe not even qb. or o-line. and the d-line is gonna be something special so said kw and he's my hero. also a scratch golfer, unlike tiger. 21.5 days?
All oany ones has heard as far as I know are the reports from the guys who have attended a few minutes of each practive. They have said LaFell looks great, tall muscular, etc. and that he has caught some passes. I don't thnk anyone has said he wasn't going to redshirt. I think we need to hear that from Miles and I have a feeling he would like to see them scrimmage a few times before making any decisions, wouldn't you?
I've read other reports that say all he needs to do right now is to just put on a little weight and then he would be in prime position to be a solid contributor. As good as LaFell looks right now, in reality, it's hard to see where he'll get the opportunities to really help (not saying that he won't play...just saying that his opportunities might be few) with Skyler, D-Bowe, Buster, Early, X-Man and Amp Hill. I think you have to handle Lafell by giving him as many reps in practice as you can, keeping him prepared, but only play him this year in the event of injury to one of the guys perceived to be in front. He was our only WR signee from last year, and with Skyler, Bowe and Davis all Jr's and Sr., we're going to lose half of our dynamic WR core by '07, and we'll need LaFell's production next year and beyond more than this year.
I agree, he doesnt need to burn a RS if he doesnt need to. let him sit back, get in a couple of series within the first three games, and get him ready for production next year.
