basically, he should have never gone to college. post-season accolades mean next to nothing to the nba. he might have been better served playing in a top-notch foreign league. there he'd play against more size and could work on his outside game more

the nba has a rule about drafting power forwards that are less than 6'8" in shoes. Charles Barkley was the exception, but I think we can put to rest the idea that brandon bass is as good as sir charles.

I really hope that he finds a niche in the nba. the kid can flat out play. he's got a lot of heart, and he plays a couple inches taller than he is.

does anyone have any wingspan or verticle info on him?

I have an awesome mid range jumper and can play with my back to the basket... at 21 I'm only 5'9"

maybe if I wait til next year when you have to be 19 to get in the league I'll be a first round pick.

wingspan of 7'2" which is supposed to be long for his height, but then I saw that dwayne wade has a 6'11 wingspan

He'll definitely get drafted tonight. Some contending team like the Spurs / Pistons will grab him because of his work ethic. He can provide a spark off the bench and will only help a team. Give him a couple years to develop at the 3 and I see him having a long career in the NBA. Coaches love players like BB.

Why would the Mavs release Finley?

Because he is owed $50 million over the next three years and he was, at times, missing this year from being productive....He's the teams veteran leader so it would be a loss for the Mavs, but $50 mil is a lot to pay a player that is averaged 14 points last year...

Finley's contract is $51 million over the next few years. due to the luxury tax, which the mavs are well over, they would have to pay a dollar on every dollar of Finley's contract, which would mean they are actually paying $102 mil for his contract.

by cutting him, they only pay out the $51 mil, free up some money to sign people, and get closer to being below the luxury tax.

Excerpt from the Dallas Morning News:

Michael Finley's career with the Mavericks could come to an end this summer because of a clause in the new collective-bargaining agreement that could save owner Mark Cuban as much as $51 million.

Two sources said Thursday that Finley, who has been with the Mavericks longer than any other current player, would be targeted if the Mavericks exercise this cost-cutting option.

The new one-time loophole allows a team to waive a player and be relieved of any luxury-tax responsibility attached to that player's contract. Finley is owed $51,796,875 over the next three seasons. Cuban would still have to pay that in salary.

But because the Mavericks' payroll is so high, Cuban also has to pay a dollar for every dollar that they are over the luxury tax. By jettisoning Finley, he could knock $15 million off his luxury tax next season. The Mavericks were well over the $61 million luxury-tax threshold last season. Essentially, the remainder of Finley's $51 million contract could cost Cuban $102 million if they remain over the luxury-tax threshold, which is probable if Finley is retained.
