The CJ & Shaq years were right around 1989-90...Which would make you 9 or 10...and to say you had informed opinions regarding the tenure of Dale Brown and his coaching ability at that time is to say that you were getting laid on a regular basis at that age... In other words...You'd be lying...
I'm old enough to remember when the very few students attending the games were chanting "ORU! ORU! ORU!" in hopes Dale would take off to Tulsa. Then the assistant coaches like ArtTolis came aboard and things radically changed. The basketball had a great run from 76-77 thru the early 90's. Arkansas joining the SEC was the turning point for Brown; prior to expansion, making the Final Four was as good as it got for anyone in the league except Kentucky. Joe Dean's magical ability (this was the guy who help Converse stand pat in the 80's while Reebok and Nike took off) of bringing mediocrity to prominent positions, allowed Brady's hire. Now it could have been worse, Perry Clark worse, but it was not a great coup. Brady wins Brownie Points for cleaning up the academic mess and having players graduate, a novel idea missing in the later stages of Daddy Dale's reign and I will give him credit for having players who improve on the foul line. Aside from that he's kinda like a brown suit. It looks OK, but it'll never get you the keys to the Executive Washroom. The upcoming road games have all the markings of a roving slaughter house. Arkansas is just laying in wait to make up for the last game. Same can be said for State, too. Ole Miss and Auburn will be very hard to handle, as well. But as bad as these games might be, we have the talent to go into Starkville, Oxpatch, Fayetteville and walk out with wins. That is frustrating part of the last three seasons of Brady Ball (that and the juvenile smoke and lights pre-game). I don't mind the drive from St. Tammany 10-12 times a season to watch the kids play because my wife and I are pretty hard-core basketball fans. It is tough to see that 8,000 seats are begging to have people watch entertaining men's basketball. Right now our team is stuffing the record with wins over directional backwater state schools and hyphenated name out-of-state colleges. The second half last night sealed his fate. He has the talent to be the 4th or 5th best team in the SEC. Losing to that Tennesse team by 22...
That's silly IMHO. Dale Brown, warts and all, is an LSU basketball legend. Period. The record is there. When I attended LSU in late 70s and early 80s, LSU basketball was a player for the NC and had awesome teams. 82-85 teams were still competitive w/ players like Jerry "Ice" Reynolds. 86 and 87 were awesome NCAA tourney runs. Late 80s and early 90s were CJ and Shaq "era". LSU was highly competitive and always in the mix -- even on somewhat avg LSU teams Dale managed to keep the excitement going by scheduling opponents like G'town in the Superdome. Randy Livingston's knee injury signalled the beginning of the end of the Dale Brown era. Say what you want -- he should have done more with the talent he had, etc. -- but 2 Final Fours, several SEC championships, excitement, packed PMACs -- were Brown's legacy. If you are going to consider Brown's tenure, on the whole, as that of an "average coach", then I'd have to question your standards and whether you were being too hypercritical of Brady. I really don't see any point in comparing Brown to Brady anyway, I don't think it adds anything to the issue of whether Brady should stay or not. Brown was a great recruiter and motivator, and actually an innovative defensive coach, his offenses however (pressure-release? what was that?) left something to be desired. Brady is a better X's and o's guy than Brown, but that ability has not, as of yet, allowed him to rise to the heights Brown brought the LSU program. But throw in the probation factor -- not Brady's fault and something he had to deal with -- and like I say, better not to even compare the two coaches, just judge Brady on his own merits.
It obviously doesn't make sense to you...But, what a surprise, you disagree with an opinion of mine...I'm sure it's not personal or have anything to do with your personal issues with me, though...LOL You can't make a valid point against me for the simple fact we both know your thongs are still bunched up over other matters...But, feel free to disagree with me on every subject I post about, just to make sure your streak is intact, and you get something out of your "vendetta" against me... Again, you refuse to acknowledge that you were offered firsthand information from the mouth of a Brady recruit, an elite level high school basketball player instate...You refused...So why should anyone listen to a damn thing you say? You purposefully ignored hearing what the guy had to say, and ignored the offer to talk to the recruit, just so you wouldn't have to admit Brady is a joke and a terrible influence on LSU Basketball... Give me a break...Respond with something pithy...I know you have it in you...Ignore all the points I make, ignore the fact that you refused first hand information...Just disagree...
i also ignored and made fun of all the people who were sure they had inside info that saban was staying. i dont listen to internet rumors. sorry.
What a surprise! BTW-Rumors are unsubstantiated. You were offered substantiation...You refused it. You were not offered a rumor in this case. You were offered substantive proof to dispel the notion that the negativity is a rumor.
news is provided by newspapers and media sources. and even they are sometimes wrong. call me crazy, but angry posters on an internet message board are not legit info sources. that is rumors. sorry, i know you hate brady, but i am not going to hold some allegations against him if they come from some dude on the internet. we can debate team performance, thats truth. rumors are waste of time.
Rumors are unsubstantiated. I did not offer you substantiation. The recruit's family member offered it to you. You refused substantiation not from someone who you feel has an agenda, but a guy who came on here and made a point about what his family member experienced and heard. We all know you backed away from hearing the vaildation. It's common knowledge. But, please. Continue. It's fun to watch you wiggle.
