The BCS a fair system???? You really ought to lay off your crack pipe. If both LSU and USC win Saturday one of the two teams worthy of playing for the NC is going to be royally F*CKED over by the BCS. If OU beats K State in the Big 12 CG and both LSU and USC win that will leave OU as the only undefeated team and two very good teams as the only one loss teams. Any idiot should be able to see that LSU is more deserving than USC but then I'm not exactly an impartial observer. Either LSU or USC is going to be screwed by the BCS system. Why the hell should we have to be having to think about stupid crap like hoping Syracuse beats Notre Dame or Boise State beats Hawaii? LSU would have easily beaten the SH*T out of all four of those teams but none of them happened to be on LSU's schedule this year. Whether LSU gets to the Sugar Bowl or not i will still hate the BCS with a burning passion.
Re: Re: Re: Re: He just told you... It's getting their attention and the national media's attention. Now there is a "support your vote issue" at hand. They also know that they can and will be held accountable.
\ But without the BCS, we wouldn't even be talking about a national championship game. We would be talking about OU in the Orange Bowl, USC in the Rose Bowl and LSU in the Sugar Bowl. Atleast now one of the one loss teams gets a chance to play #1 each other instead of both teams getting screwed.
The BCS uses two sources to rank teams. 1. Polls - subjective 2. Computer rankings - objective Let's face it. The polls are gonna screw LSU no matter what, even if we win out against Georgia. It's a popularity contest and USC holds the cards. I believe that LSU is a better team (look at the stats - objective) but USC is gonna get the nod b/c of their market share and pagentry (subjective). It's the game that "everybody" wants to see :dis:
IMO, a system that allows a major conference one loss team to play for a MNC while screwing another major one loss team that is, seemingly, just as deserving out of a chance to play for the MNC is WORSE than what we had before. If they are not going to have any sort of playoff (incidentally, I agree with Nick Saban in that we should have three more games after the bowl games involving the top four teams), then I'd just as soon have the old system. This year, an undefeated Oklahoma would play in the Orange Bowl against Miami, perhaps. USC would play Michigan in the Rose, and LSU would play in the Sugar against ??? perhaps, Texas? If Oklhoma won their bowl game, regardless of what LSU and USC do in theirs, they'd be unanimous #1. If LSU won, and USC and Oklahoma lost, then LSU would almost certainly be unanimous #1. Flip it and have USC win while the others lose and USC is #1. If Oklahoma lost their bowl game and USC and LSU won, then it's a popularity contest and perhaps even a split MNC. I don't care. I'd take it over this stupid system whereby a team that seemingly deserves to compete for a MNC as much as another gets screwed out of it based upon what some scrub team like Boise State or Syracuse does in their final regular season game!!! I wouldn't have so much of a problem with a system that would match up two undefeated teams from BCS conferences. A system that matched a BCS conference undefeated team with the only BCS conference team with only one loss would also be fine. But, a system that uses the polls, computers, etc., to select one of two teams that have both gotten through their schedule undefeated or with just one loss each is just plain STUPID!!! Regarding Oklahoma... I've been contemplating this a bit. If, IF, Oklahoma loses to Kansas State in the Big XXII CG, they will still most certainly go to the Sugar Bowl for a chance at the MNC. Do y'all think that they should? Just ignore the BCS. Should a team that doesn't even win its own conference have a chance to play for the MNC? My general feeling is no. To me, it's a single elimination playoff down the stretch. What if no other team has less than two losses? Should Oklahoma then be allowed to go compete for the MNC if they don't win their own conference? It's a semi-double elimination scenario. I tend to go back and forth, but I wouldn't mind having a provision in the BCS that (if we're going to be stuck with this stupid system ) you must win you're conference to go to the MNC game. Part of the problem, though, is the inherent unfairness in that some (most) conferences don't have a conference championship game. We will, one day, have a playoff. I am fairly certain of that. I think it will start small, like having the top four play off following the bowls. And that will be a step in the right direction. Imagine this year if we were under the old system and Oklahoma, USC, LSU, and Ohio State all won their bowls and finished 1 through 4, in that order. Imagine having an Oklahoma vs. Ohio State matchup and an LSU vs. USC matchup on January 10, 2004. Say Oklahoma beats the Luckeyes and LSU beats the trojans. Then, on January 17, 2004, LSU and Oklahoma play for the championship. No team could say that they were screwed. Oh sure, whichever team finishes 5th may make some noise - but under the current system they have no hope whatsoever, anyway. But, the top four would get to prove their worth (or lack, thereof) on the field and not in popularity polls or computer programs! But, that just makes too much damn sense!
