Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Not in your lifetime maybe . . . But when the price of foreign gasoline goes to $15-20 a gallon in the next couple of decades, we will drill through baby Harp seals to get to the oil.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Not if the Dems have their say. Just like with Arizona's self protection legislation, Obama et al will make this a political issue.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Yeah, the sky is always falling. You let me know if it ever hits ground, OK?
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill It's about time you two started bickering.. I was starting to get bored. :yelwink2: opcorn:

Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill well yeah but the aocustic value is a remote controled valve that will shut off the well by remote control from as far away as the shoreline. If they would have spent the money on that then someone could have hit the button as soon as the explosion happened. Could that valve have failed too like the blowout maybe...maybe not we will never know...but on a MULTI Billion dollar rig they didnt see fit to spend just 500K more for 1 more safety feature that very possible could have contained all of this.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill What they ought do is place some C4 along the Miss River levees say south of Empire and blow em sky high...allow the river to coat the marsh with a layer of silt and even possible increase the water flow out into the gulf that would prehaps give the clean up crews alittle more time to get ready!
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill done a lil research since your post this morning. after a few phone calls and discussions, I found out that apparently, not many rigs drilling in US are equipped with that acoustic cap. not sure the reason why not. maybe just because we usually are the last to adopt to the practices of other nations. Blowout preventors have been around since well before I was born. But if I'm reading right, the one on this rig was a manual device that would have to have been triggered by someone on the rig. There may not have been enough time to do so before the explosion. Don't know why the ROVs weren't able to shut it after the fact though.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Yeah the aocustic valve is something that hasnt caught on here yet I did read that... I think the ROVs couldnt shut it off because it was damaged once the rig sank to the sea floor...I could be wrong. Here the new reports coming out....this rig had a not so good history when it came to accidents
