Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill The boat they will be doing the "Top Kill" from is in the field standing by. Possibly could start Sunday.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Mississippi Canyon 252 L to R: DD2 - drilling relief well, Discoverer Enterprise drillship - over Horizon location, flaring gas I assume from the syphon tube operation, Support rig Q4000 from where the "Top Kill" operation will be tied into the well, DD3, drilling relief well.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill my islands have been hit. hit pretty hard according to my friend in Water Patrol. and oil has already wrapped around them, and is creeping closer and closer to the marsh I love :bncry:
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Two things about this top kill technique that are not being discussed much: 1) It will take several weeks to complete. 2) It could ultimately make the leak worse. The sad reality is that we're looking at another month of oil leaking into the gulf, best case scenario.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill We saw a couple sheens on the way out of Chavin last weekend. Not far out from the pass. Sad to see how far west it has gotten and how quickly. I can't imagine not being able to make regular fishing trips out on the coast, but we may not be able to for a long long time.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill i had read point number one a few times. i had not seen point number two. that is more than a little scary. best case scenerio is mind boggling, and the situation is already a nightmare.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Well, the concern is with pressure in the blowout preventer. There is a possibility that it can backfire and cause the leak/rupture to become larger. However, they have been monitoring pressure readings form the bop and they have actually been dropping in recent days. This most likely has something to do with the delay.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill The article on BP’s exploration plan is infuriating. All I know about it was what I read in the article presented here, but I have to think that the spirit of the plan was more to satisfy government mandates than to come up with any reasonable plan. A lot of people make their living coming up with giant stacks of documents not worth the cost of the paper. Not just those who created the plan, but those who were charged with reviewing and accepting the plan have a lot of dirt on their hands. Obviously no one involved with writing the plan nor accepting it wanted this disaster, but I have to wonder what was on their minds. Did they simply view the process as a “dance” which had to be done to get the drilling OKed? If so, that’s gross negligence and criminal.

Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill I heard earlier that it's in the northern parts of Barataria Bay.
