Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Dude comes off like a redneck SoLa dude but I think he's an absolute freakin' genius. What an simple and ingenious solution. :thumb:
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Yeah, I'm just wondering how practical it is. It works like a champ with 2 small bowls, but what about on the scale of the actual spill. Is there enough of that grass/hay available to even make a dent?
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill And has does this process help get the oil off the bottom of the sea bed and underneath the surface of the water
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Oil soaked hay will be all up in the marsh grass at the next high tide where it can't be recovered. Looks to me like it could actually be a vehicle to get more oil into the marsh grass instead of getting it out of the marsh.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill It doesn't. But oil floats on top of water until the volatile components evaporate and then heavier tar-like precipitates can start dropping to the bottom. Not a lot we can do about that, but they don't cause the disaster in deep water that they can in shallow water where there is more bottom life.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Right but what is spewing into the gulf isnt the pure motor oil that it appeared the poured into the bowls....while some is floating on the surface from what I have heard, they believe the majority of the spill is just below the surface floating.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill Sure, but not very deep. It tries to stay at the top and tends to spread and get thinner.
Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill I sincerely hope and pray that a solution can be found rapidly. Not that I have any insight whatsoever, however, I'm beginning to have a bad feeling about this.

Re: Oil Rig explosion/Gulf Oil Spill The REALLY sad part is that they haven't even capped the damn thing, so not only are they contending with oil already spilled, the slick just keeps getting bigger by the second. Hard to believe they can't find a way to stop the spill with over 2 weeks to figure something out.
