How about all those years that UF and UT were going to BCS games and we sucked, think we may have come out ahead in some of thos eyears? Kramer went to the Pete Rozelle school of revenue sharing and realized that if the SEC did that we would have the best athletic conference in college and get the best TV contracts in the NCAA as well as the best bowl tie-ins in football. And he knew what he was doing and now all other conferences are playing catchup. And remember, Vandy and UK in football help us keep our records good in off years as well as helping to make 8 SEC teams bowl eligible most years. And UK brings in a ton of NCAA tourney money every year too, as well as buying up most of the SEC Tourney tickets.

Here's an excerpt from The Advocate this morning about Capital One and the SEC bowl payouts for this year...

Saban and Bertman called the game the most prestigious of the non-BCS bowls. The payout per team -- $5.187 million -- is also the highest of any non-BCS bowl.

Once LSU shares the money with SEC teams and the conference office, Bertman said, LSU will still need $300,000 from the Tiger Athletic Foundation to break even for playing in the Capital One Bowl, considering travel and lodging and other expenses.

Because of the other SEC bowl games, Bertman said, LSU will receive about $8 million in bowl revenues at the annual SEC spring meetings. He acknowledged the SEC's cut will be down this year because of South Carolina's self-imposed bowl ban after a fight during its game against Clemson last month.
