My grandpa used to repair the shrimp boats in Lake Arthur (he was a WWII infantry/mechanic) as I remember being a little kid in the 70s/80s. He and those boat Captains used to barter. I remember the ice chests of shrimp, and the wooden crates of blue crab.....damn big ones. Anyway, I love blue crab, and didn't think anything could compare. Then I got stationed in Wa State, I loved the dungeness crab, they were fuller and better than the blue crab. Living here in Alaska, I still find the dungeness crab to be the best....better than King crab, snow crab, etc. We went home in May 2015, I loved having some blue crab and Gulf shrimp.
Grew up on blue crabs here in Virginia but Dungeness are great too. You could just say crabs as a class are damn good.
Can't speak much for other crabs other than blue and the ones these casinos have here which suck but I've got about 6 gallons of pure picked out blue crab meat ready for deer season. Be crab meat and cheese poboys, stuffed flounder, stuffed mushrooms, and crab patties in all directions
My uncle was Vice Commander of Elmendorf in the 80s. He retired up there too. They moved to AZ a few years ago
