I've had them. They are good, but if they ain't boiled they ain't the best. A few years ago there was a shortage of crabs in the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland crab suppliers were buying them from Louisiana.
A few years ago there was a poor dungeness crab season on the west coast, China was buying up all they could find,.. compared to the year before, the price we paid locally tripled.
This has been going on for quite some time. We get mostly 2's here. The east coast gets all of our #1's because they are willing to pay more.
10 or 12 years ago you could get a dozen #1's in a restaurant for about $17.95. Now the same restaurant charges $4 A CRAB!
Salinity still 0 in the bay but we got 3 dozen this morning. Still not good but def better than Monday
was in grand isle this past weekend for my sisters wedding. we set traps and caught about 8 dozen, out of all of those only 2 #1s. Both males, But they were all very full and damn tasty
More of the same last couple times. 3 dozen even each of the last 2 trips. Enough to stay interested but half what we should be getting. Fishing been good too lots of trout and jumped on a couple snapper trips with some guys getting limits each time biggest going 24.8lbs. Also picked up a 17lb blackfish. Photobucket apparently not working any more and when I try to attach a pic it says file is to large every time.
