America has no official languge - just a majority that speak english. That I know of, no where can you find an American document stating that English is the official language. Anybody can say Merry Christmas or God Bless You. Business chose not to in an attempt to get more costumers. The govt shouldn't IMO because, like martin said, they shouldn't favor any religion. It's your choice as an American to chose your own religion - it's part of that whole freedom thing. To me, that means it's not to far of a jump to think that the government shouldn't favor a certain religion, regardless of whether the country was formed around it. I don't think immigrants should be forced to learn our culture - but should have to if they want to succeed. Amenities shouldn't be made for them at costs to everyone else because they refuse to learn.

I spent 100% of my time with the Infantry, we held ourselves, and our men, to different standards. All I am saying to you, shipmate, is tell them to shut the f*** up. It doesn't matter what rank they are, they'll stop. Martin, I don't lump all spanish speakers in with illegal aliens. Like you said, a lot of my fellow Marines were latino, I had many close friends who spoke spanish as a first language. Everyone of them took the time to learn very good english. Next time you are at a McDonalds, or a Wal-Mart, and you hear the guy next to you talking spanish, tell him to shut up or speak english. I've never had anyone keep talking spanish and most will change over to english. We don't have to just sit back and accept the decline of our culture. We are not outnumbered or outgunned like the native Americans. Am I close minded? Hell Yes! And I choose to be. At this point in my life, I have pretty much made up my mind on how I feel about certian subjects. I don't intend on compromising my beliefs for anyone. You don't have to feel the way I do, but, I sure as hell don't have to feel the way you do. I respect some of you views on different subjects, and other I feel are ludicrous. I guess that is what makes us an interesting society.
i do the same thing you do, except i do it to deaf people when they speak sign language. i sign at them "speak english with your mouth, idiot!".
How does that make me a jerk? Around here, if someone is talking spanish, it's because they are fresh across the border and have no green card in their pocket. I don't apprieciate them and I want them to know it. Do I feel a little sorry for them? Yes. Do I care enough to allow them to be here illegaly? No. The way I see it, if they are here legally, more power to them. I hope they enjoy their stay and come back. If they are here illegally, then they need to carry their rear ends back across the border. You see Martin, it's cut and dry with me, you either obey the rules, or your a criminal. It just so happens that our country chooses to turn a blind eye to this particular type of criminal. Edit: I just thought of something. Since when does Martin care about anyone's feelings but his own?
Simply, NOT TRUE! I know a lot of foreigners who are fluent in English and very much legal that speak in their native tongue amongst themselves. They have every right to do so, and are affecting no one negatively. It might bother you, but I promise, they are not hurting you. However, I don't see why it should/does bother you so much. It's not like they're talking to you in a different language. Wouldn't you want to do that if you moved to another land and had to learn their language to survive? Wouldn't you want to speak to your wife in English? Boy, no kidding. I was wondering the same thing!:hihi:
i cant remember if my posts are getting deleted on this thread or if i only think something and dont say it. doesnt matter i guess. saltyone is simply xenophobic and stupidly nationalistic. thats all there really is to it. this is the sort of mindless tribalism that causes problems everywhere. i like to use the word "caveman" when discussing this mentality. it is my group against your group. my language against yours. my ethnicity against yours. my religion against yours. it is the reason everything bad happens. if i am gonna hate a person, it will not be for what language they speak or what they are, it will be because they are against the good important ideas, like freedom and individual liberty. language is nothing, neither is skin color/ethnicity (although i still love racism as a comic device). these are arbitrary and stupid reasons to group yourselves together. i take no pride in my language, my ethnicity, my race, the religion i was born into, none of that matters. to care about that stuff is to be a caveman, proud of the random factors that you were born into. the way i see it, you either are a rational person who favors freedom of people to act as individuals, or you are a backward caveman moron who believes in magic and mindlessly cares about meaningless random things like language and race. hey cmon i am easily the best person i have ever met. i am unfailingly honest and friendly and mostly perfect in every way.
Martin, either you pick a side or you will be ruled by one. Your outlook on life, and the world we live in, would be great if it excisted. In my world there is no such thing as stupidly nationalistic. I truely do not understand your outlook on things. You have got to be kidding. How can none of these matter to you? They are who you are. If everyone thought the way that you do, and nothing was worth dying or fighting for, we wouldn't have this country.
