Yes, You have to apply for and receive tags. I'm not sure how they determine the number of tags you get but I think it has something to do with where you're hunting or the size of your lease.
You should email CBS and let them know you are cooking a 12 foot gator for the game and maybe they'll put you on TV.

my uncle gets tags because he owns some marsh land south of houma. it depends on the amount of land(uninhabitable) that you are hunting
