He takes up more room underneath with the larger girth. Better for rebounds and put backs although he might get winded quicker.
they actually say he gets winded faster short term, but that his body will hold up better throughout the season long term... we'll see...
not shooting the messenger, I'm just surprised by that statement. I don't think that Glen's draft status will be helped at 320. I've been saying all along that he should be around 290-295. At that weight, he's quicker and more mobile. It actually hasn't affected his rebounding numbers this season, and he's scoring in more ways. I think perhaps the staff is being a little selfish, b/c they see the pounding that Big Baby gets night in and night out in the SEC and perhaps you can argue that the weight helps. But, there are very few "round" chubby guys in the NBA. He'd be better at sub 300 in the L and as we saw from Haslem, Barkley, Malone and others, the night in and night out of running up and down the court in the NBA leads to more conditioned athletes. Right now, I can see Glen marketing himself like a Malone or Barkley to the NBA. He's already drawing those comparisons... Malone was an animal in the workout department and Barkley well, he got by on his sheer talent. Glen I think is somewhere in between.
Well, remember how he got all that press during the Tourney run, on how he'd lost so much weight, was in great shape, etc....only to turn around and admit in the offseason that he'd ballooned to, what, 350 by the Final Four? He's only hurting himself and his draft status if he finishes this season with a whimper. One man's Charles Barkley can easily become another's Oliver Miller if he isn't careful with how he manages his weight.
My issue with the whole thing is how the commentators and announcers make such a damn deal over the weight loss... showing him posing with the green drinks and what not. Then, I watch the game and think to myself, "He sure does look a lot bigger than he looked back in November".
its really tough to keep weight that has been lost off. when you add fat over time you add fat cells, but you never lose that even if you lose weight (unless you get lipo). fat in the diet (and fat coverted from sugars) is more efficiently processed and stored in the "starved" fat cells. he's got a much tougher row to hoe than normal people that just put on some weight as they age---and thats not even considering the cravings he probably has from the crappy diet of his upbringing.
this is a good way to investigate. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=glen+davis&btnG=Search+Images
