The problem for Va Tech is that they compete relentlessly with UVA. If they go to SEC, it will be seen as, and I mean no offense, "dumbing down the program." The snooty folks from Virginia wont like that. Like it or not, the ACC plays the superior academic card, it is about all they have.
Rumors are heating up, spurred on by Orangeblood.com, that Texas is eyeing the ACC as a potential new home. Isn't the internet fun?
I could see Texas going for the ACC. They'd be avoiding playing high powered teams like Oregon, USC, Stanford, OU, and OKstate, ... opening up the door for them to be the big kid on the block. .... which allows them to demand more money. Quite Frankly, it'd crack me up if Texas ends up in the "Independent Conference" .. along with ND, Army and Nave. LOL ... that'd be a hoot ... ie., nobody want your spoiled azzes. .. and your not smart enough for the ACC.
This is nuts, and it makes me a little sad. I kind of miss the college football I grew up with. Where winning your conference and its New Year's Day bowl bid was enough. A national champion was named, but it didn't overshadow everything else. The bowls have long since been watered down to the point of absurdity. Now conferences are going to carry twice as many teams as they can schedule. The Pac adding Colorado and Utah last year didn't make any sense to me. Adding Oklahoma and Texas would make up for that. I think if that's the way things shake out, the SEC should go all in for Florida State. They never fit in with the ACC, IMO. They should be in the SEC w/ UF, IMO. I'd hate to see the SEC add three also rans, just for the sake of expanding to 16.
We should lobby University of Miami and Florida State. Then we'd have the entirety of "The Florida Nation" within the SEC. Actually, I'd like to NOT ACCEPT any schools. Prolly not possible, though.
Like it or not, the ACC plays the superior academic card, it is about all they have. Ain't it the truth ?
I don't know where Texas is going, but I'd bet you serious coinage that their brand new shiny business partners in Bristol, CT know all about it. All this discussion, and folks aren't giving much thought to the hand ESPN has in all of this. And really, the entire thing got into gear because the Aggies got pissed at the idea of Texas having their own network, and told them to go s**t in their big ole hats. Makes it very interesting, is all.
