What's strange about Ruffino's being considered the best italian is that of all the dishes served there, italian makes up only a small portion of the overall fare served (This comes straight from Ruffin). Out of curiosity, who has yet to eat at Nino's? If you have and didn't enjoy, please elaborate. Thanks.
I'm almost scared to post a negative reply about Nino's, since the last time I was there it seemed like there was an Italian Mafia meeting going on. I have not been back since, and that is because of the food. I do not pick restaurants apart for this and that, though I usually give them a second chance. This was Nino's second chance. I have to say the DiGuilio's has to be my favorite, since I eat lunch there at least once a week and Dinner at least once a week. I try other Italian Restaurant's, but not real often since I spend so much time in Diguilio's. Therefore, I may not give a very fair opinion of other Italian Rest. But I do agree with one of the posts that Ruffino's is not just an Italian Rest. and I feel is only average.
I would frequent Pinetta's (spelling) on Perkins when I lived in BRLA - I had some great meals there. It's more of an old world (Classic Euro) place than some of the more Americanized (and Louisiana-ized for that matter) Italian a lot of people have come to recognize. I think that's why some like Geno's vs some of the other choices. In New Orleans, I like Tony Angelo's - Anselmo's - Andrea - and belive it or not, Bravo's. One place I have discovered that has great Lasagna is Laurentino's in Metairie. Funny thing is it's a Spanish (not Mexican) restaurant. It's around the corner from the original Vincent's, and all the food is killer.
I don't get to BR much any more. But in NOLA, Tony Angelo's is excellent! I love their Veal Saltimboca!:thumb:
