One of my best days was the first day I broke 80 on the golf course. It may not seem like much but 1) I'll never be a scratch golfer and 2) that was one of those things I worked hard to do to get through the most depressing time in my life. Going back to school 2 years after my B.S. degree was the most important thing I ever did.
No gnats. The wind from the beach keeps them at bay. Also, the mayor is my friend (actually more of an acquaintance) & is the greatest mayor whose ever served this city. That's why OS is great and the surrounding towns are redneck shitcans.
This is sort of where I am. There were more than a few times that I could have flown home from Iraq in a damn box however those days, wow, what a damn rush. I'm not ready to call them the best days but beings I'm still on the right side of the dirt they couldn't have been that damn bad. The birth of any of my kids are great days (FU tirk) and well, as cliche as it may be I'm just not sure I've had my worst day yet. The days I lost my Mom and Grandparents will forever be the most sad but then again they were all three suffering terribly so hard to be selfish and not want peace for them.
I guess the sarcasm with the smiley didnt translate about the mayor....it is a running joke how so many people around dont like her yet no one can ever really say why or pinpoint anything about the job she has done that they can really complain about. But man I was serious about the gnats they about carried us off last night at Fort Maurepas......if that wind doesnt blow they get bad in a hurry...especially at the boat launch...they can make it miserable trying to launch or load. But yea overall OS is a great place to live.....oldest kid plays ball at Freedom Field and goes to St John Preschool. Def dont consider where I live in Latimer to be a "redneck shithole" though....I live on a 100+ acre horse farm.....my kids have plenty land to play on, a big pond to fish in, can hunt all the deer, squirrels, doves etc we want and the list can go on and on......things you just cant do in any city.......might have the redneck part right but to say shithole I can tell you it is far from that.....now Moss Point, Gulfport(except for the "old Gulfport" area, Gautier, Goula, and a good bit of whats left of Biloxi....yea I cannot disagree with that.
Yeah, I was referring to D'Iberville, Gulfport, Gautier, Goula, etc. lol Yeah, the mayor kicks the fuck out of her opponents and does a good job. Her opponents don't like her because she turned downtown into an 'entertainment district' with tons of live music and people walking from bar to bar. It's like a super classy Bourbon street. They don't like the loud music, etc. What the fuck ever. I live downtown and I love walking to the bars. Huge festival down there this weekend. Talk about your all time thread derail. It's just that I've been on this board for 7 years or so and only a few times have I figured out that someone lived close to me (even though we are closer to Tiger Stadium than alot of Louisiana folk on here).
Yea no doubt....people sometimes ask why there are so many LSU fans in south MS....pretty simple answer....aside from USM, LSU is the closest major college to us....closer than MSU and much closer than Ole Miss....only seems natural for many of us to end up LSU fans.....my own reason goes back to when I was about 5 years old and went to an LSU Ole Miss game(Mom worked with and is best friends with Author Cantrell's ex-wife who at the time was not the ex yet so we were wide open with LSU stuff at the time and actually years later Author ended up renting the house across the road from us)...sitting in the end zone pregame got hit in the back of the neck with a ball being thrown back onto the field during field goal warm ups.....trainers came over....took me to the medical facility to be checked out, brought me to meet Mike up close and personal, gave me all kinda LSU stuff (tshirts etc) and have been die hard LSU ever since. Still have the ball that bout knocked me slam out too. And yea the bar scene in downtown OS is much nicer than its ever been.....with the kids being 3 and 1 we dont go as much as we used to but I have spent a many a night and will spend a many a more walking from bar to bar.....couple nights ago it started at Leo's, then to Grocery,.......fill in a couple missing bars here that I dont remember exactly which ones we went to.....and somehow wound up at Orangutangs but by then it didnt much matter. I do miss Harbor Landing though.....I really enjoyed pulling the boat up right there close to the ramp for lunch and it being a small local place rather than the bigger casino type places that we can pull up to.....being right there at the ramp made it really convenient since the other places are a little bit out of the way when all you really want is a cold beer or 3 and a poboy after fishing all morning. Anyways......like was said sorry for the derailing....got a little carried away.
OK, one more derail.....you mention former LSU Tiger Art Cantrell. He has turned into a drinking buddy of mine. We don't call each other and go out together or anything, but when we see each other out, we buy each other many many beers and talk for hours. I haven't seen him in months, but he comes to downtown OS all of the time and drinks like a fish. Anyway, years ago is when I first met him. Here is the thread I started back then on ol' Art: http://tigerfan.com/threads/art-cantrelle-rb-1968-1971.74532/ Also, stick around this board. It's awesome. I won't let any of these dudes like @tirk and @shane0911 and @lsutiga fuck with you.
