I though about Rutgers but man they are always terrible, at least Northwestern has a few good years, then the toilet then good again. Here is a thought Take Iowa State, Move Ok State to the Big 12 North, We put Arkansas back in the former SWC Big 12 south, we replace them with Florida State or Georgia Tech to the east. Move Tennesse to the SEC west, and the ACC can take Louisville. Wow... I think I just had an aneurism...
IMO, I don't think the next coach (if there is one) gets Saban-type money unless he proves himself like Saban did. It will probably be in th $1.5 - $1.8 million range, bt doubtful that it's over $2 million. To me, it seems that figure is reserved to reward the elite coaches.
Actually, this kind of talk makes the circuit a lot. How about we take Missouri, the B12 takes (back) Arkansas, the SEC adds GT and the ACC adds Syracuse. UL is already going to the B-easy, let 'um add ND as ND isn't going anywhere where they can't call the shots.
If there's one bright spot in this whole episode is that we have Skip Bertman, the uber championship winner and professional, at the helm looking for Nick's replacment if he should leave.
He has a $1.2 million base plus $400,000 per year if he completes his contract. "In addition to his base salary, guaranteed annual increases and longevity bonuses, Ferentz can earn supplemental compensation if his team achieves a graduation rate above 70 percent, finishes in the Top 25 USA Today/ESPN Poll, wins or ties for the Big Ten Conference championship, wins a bowl game and wins the national championship. Ferentz would also earn additional pay for being named Big Ten or national coach of the year". We believe he has an out for the Penn State job only.
As you know, this year alone KF has made the top 25, tied for the B10 championship, and was named coach of the year in the B10. Not sure what that's all worth, but it would take a lot to get him, plus whatever the buyout is.
Notre Dame signing a new contract with the NBC last year kind of knocks them out of the running for a while. The Big Ten commish shows he had balls when he announced that Notre Dame needs the Big 10 more than the Big Ten needs the Irish. I do think the Big 10 will add one more team in the next few years.
If we end up paying that kinda money, then our coaching search and resulting find has been a complete disaster.
