I think Nagin's could have handeled the logistics better. Hww many busses are in the city of New Orleans? Now I know hindsight is 20/20, but wouldn't it have made sense to take these busses and line them up on poydros street and be ready to take the evacusees out after the storm pases. Of course that raises the pint of where they would be taken, but again that is a state and local government job.
No doubt about it. My wife mentioned (a few days before Katrina landed) that they should help the evacuation along with buses. I noted that there isn't a really big bus system in NOLA (not like in Houston, anyway) and she brought up school buses. Now it seems to me, if a casual observer can come up with the idea, only negligence on the part of the local officials can define their inaction.
My dad said to use the ferries on Wed. They started using them on what, Friday/Sat? Of course, we are all full of brilliant ideas, right?
Word is that they had evacuated the captains and did not know where they had relocated to. It took time to round them up.
