I guess you can see that while the original post is a bit inaccurate (due to the fact that since 1980, we've only had both teams on our schedule 18 times--not 25--but it still shows the significance of what we did this year in terms of the Gators and War Chickens.
What is really important is that Nick led us to 2 SEC titles and a National Championship in his 5 years here. That is what matters. Let's all hope that Les will bring us conference titles and a National Championship. He might do just that. However, which teams we beat in tandem in the same year doesn't really matter unless it allows us to accomplish what is really important...CHAMPIONSHIPS!
Obviously, given Stovall's lack of success, beating both in the first year is not necessarily a sign of future greatness.* *Posted in order to show that I can argue both sides of any issue. :yelwink2:
It is amazing that we beat both Florida and Auburn in Tiger Stadium on back-to-back weekends ... and there was not much excitement as I exited Tiger Stadium. It was more like "whew, we escaped another close game!". Not sure about everyone else, but it's been awfully hard to get into this season with everything that happened with the hurricanes. Hopefully beating Bama will get me in the mood. :yelwink2:
In '80, Florida was ranked 19th, and Auburn wasn't ranked at all so beating them both when LSU wasn't ranked either, is a pretty good feat.
I think the next two weeks will help out with "excitement". Up until now, we really haven't dominanted anyone yet this year (with the lone exception possibly being Miss State). With that exception, all of our games, at least on the scoreboard, have been very tight heading into the 4th quarter of all of them. The fans love blow-outs. We love dominating from start to finish. I think even though it's North Texas and Appy State, everyone will feel much better heading into the 'Bama game after they've seen our starters AND back-ups put up lots of points, and lots of yards.
Hate admit that BB but you are probably right even though these next 2 games should do nothing in that regard unless we were to sruggle.
