In all fairness, comparing the Saints and the Fins is apples and oranges. There's no comparing the AFC East with the NFC at this point. Also, the Dolphins' issues revolved almost exclusively around the quarterback. Sure, hindsight is that Saban made the wrong QB decision, but let's not forget that Culpepper was one of the best QBs in the league before the injury. Brees was not before his injury. The pro sports forum has a good thread about the Fins, if any of you are interested. There's a great analysis of the Fins by our resident Fins fan. The guy is a genius. :hihi:
Does anyone realize how much Drew Brees sucker punched Tiger Bait to Bama? (no bad arm pun intended  ) Yeah, Tiger Bait is a master at evaluating talent with Broke Knee Culpepper, Gangster Vick, Blunt Williams, etc... Even if Brees did go to Miami, I still say they don't make the playoffs. Brees is perfect in this style offense and payton may be the smartest coach in the game today.
Funny you mentioned your very informed opinion in the other thread...I just finished reading it to the fins fans around here!!!
It was reported that he wanted the team doc who told him Brees wouldn't play this year to be fired and Huizenga wouldn't OK it.
  Yea, OK. "Since Moss left?" You mean the sample size of seven games that Culpepper played in? With a new coordinator/playbook? On a truly dysfunctional team? Brees was certainly regarded as a solid QB, but let's not be complete revisionists here. Culpepper had been a Pro Bowl QB for years, with one of the greatest seasons in the history of the NFL in '04 (in Manning's shadow.) And absolutely ZERO argument from me on Payton doing more in one than Saban did in two. However, like I said before, it's not an entirely equitable comparison. Payton (and Loomis & Co.) have been phenomenal this year.
Its a good thing they didn't fire the doc. Not only would the Dolphins have 23 assistant coaches on staff but they would also be minus a doctor!
Someone needs to do "eye of the tiger" and turn it into "smell of the dollar" for nick- that would be a good tune.
Good points. FA classes are not recruiting classes, but with the current FA rules in the NFL, teams can go from worst to first in the span of one season, ahem, I give you your New Orleans Saints! Saban made some tactical errors in the FA market, the gravest one probably being missing out on Drew Brees when just about everyone thougt that Miami was the front runner to get him. I do believe that Saban probably prefers the college game, but that doesn't change the fact that he put his tail between his legs and ran like the little girl he proved himself to be (this in reference to my young daughter and all her young girlfriends - so no offense is intended).
Someone on ESPN reported that Miami did make an offer to Brees but he chose New Orleans instead. I don't follow the NFL much so I don't know if it is fact.
