I wonder if the Sugar would consider LSU in this case. We'd be ranked well ahead of Ark if they lost to us and the SECCG. If it was Auburn who lost the SECCG, the BCS rankings would be close between the two.

The old notion that LSU fans would not book hotel rooms and spend lots of money in New Orleans was dispelled in '01 and '03. I think the Sugar would welcome LSU if they had the opportunity to pick us.

Don't know if we'd be eligible under all the BCS rules, but an interesting thought...

    You make a great point.

Is it mandatory for the Sugar to take the #2 SEC team (i.e., the SEC CG loser) as their representative, should Florida make it to the NC game?

Can the Sugar opt out and choose LSU, the #3 team in the SEC?

Arkansas would be ranked way behind us (probably somewhere around 20th, while LSU would be in the top 10).

I think if you lose the SCCG then you are knocked out of the top ten BCS teams. I think that if you are an automatic qualifer for a certain bowl and you play in the NC then that bowl gets to pick whoever they want.

Last year Texas went to the Rose for the NC and Ohio State and ND played in the Fiesta.

That's true, but the Big 12 didn't have another team BCS bowl eligible. Texas Tech was the next highest team at 15. Not sure if there any rules stating they have to take another team from the same conference if they are BCS bowl eligible. I've searched the net, but no luck.

I'm thinking the Sugar will be able to pick any BCS bowl eligible team they want should Florida make the NC game. A highly ranked LSU team would be awfully attractive to them, IMO.

I have a feeling thta Florida loses the SECCG against whoever they play. Would the BCS take the SEC Champion or another Conf Champion??

The sugar bowl can take whomever they want after FLorida goes the National Championship, assuming we qualify. If Boise would have lost last night, that would have helped a great deal.

Assuming we win out, and Arky loses in the SECC I think we have a great shot at the sugar bowl. If Cal beats USC, USC will drop below us. Arkansas would obviously be below us.

So, the sugar gets to pick who they want, I could seem them going ND, LSU. And wouldnt that be a great matchup.

The Sugar must take the SEC Champ, unless they are playing in the NC game.

The biggest hope is we win out as does Florida. That way they have a shot at the NC and we get looked at for a Sugar bid. I know that is worst case for New Orleans since most who attend the game would be day trippers. I'm sure they want some out-of-state teams.

I think we proved that old notion wrong our last two trips there. Of course, it would depend on the opponent. Give us someone like ND, and we'll spend the weekend in New Orleans. Give us Boise State, and you are probably right.
