1. The BCS is designed to choose 2 teams out of the field to play for the MNC. The BCS has only "failed" (defined as taking a clearly unworthy team) twice: 2000 & 2001.

In 2000, Miami beat Florida State, but the Seminoles beat out the Canes for the title game.

In 2001, Nebraska gave up 63 points to Colorado in the regular season finale, preventing them from going to the BigXIICG, but their lead in the computers were enough to get them to Pasadena.

Of course, this definition of "failure" relies on a clearly unjust result. While 2003, 2004 & 2006 were very close, and therefore "controversial", the BCS ended up deciding between two very close teams who had not played each other. That is what it is designed to do. Had those 3 turned out any different, they still wouldn't have been "wrong", because in 2003 USC and Oklahoma were pretty equal as were Auburn and Oklahoma in 2006 and Michigan and Florida in 2006.

As long as the college presidents do not want a playoff, it won't happen. Considering that college presidents are probably the most anti-competative group in America, I'm not holding my breath.

  2. Wait, so you are saying that the BCS screwed up by getting it right??? Man, that does make sense.
