No you won't. Anybody LSU beats was overrated to begin with, don't you know. Forget that we beat Miami by 40 with a backup QB with no starts. That's irrelevant. Forget that CLM's only loss after a bye was UT in 2005 after Hurricane's Katrina and Rita. That's irrelevant. All of those teams sucked anyways.
Red55, all very valid points. IMO, I don't think if the buckeyes get down they fold this year like last. If their asses aren't in gear immediately, that would definitely get their attention. hopefully it wouldn't be too late at that point, but the pressure would definitely be on, and we'd find out what the buckeyes are made of, that's for sure. A couple of confidences, worries from the buckeye side, imo, would be Worries 1. Todd Boeckman...needs to play better than the last couple of games. at UM, weather was a big issue, but his confidence was shot. He broke the thumb on his throwing hand, and made a couple of bad throws, getting in his own head too much, and started forcing things. Even at the beginning of the year, many of those deep balls that he's gotten so much credit for were average throws where the reciever bailed him out. 2. LSU D Line penetration...if there are a few TFL, as i'm sure there will be, Tressel needs to not abandon the run like he did last year. 3. Conservative coaching...if the sweatervest is buttoned too tight, it's possible that Tress could cost us the game by not going for the jugular...Though i think last year made it clear that you have to be agressive and let your playmakers make plays (sorry, cliche i know), if you wanna beat a team of equal talent. Confidences 1. Beanie Wells. I realize Boeckman needs to have a good game, and starting out with an intermediate, short passing game to give confidence to Boeckman and open things up for wells should help. With the zone blocking scheme, LSU's D line penetration will create some TFL, but also some lanes for cutbacks, and some seams for big plays...Beanie is good enough to capitalize, and hopefully negate some of the TFL. 2. Defense. I think other than the oline, the defense was the most embarrassed unit from last year (I know i keep bringing it up--not relevant to this year's game for anything other than motivation and lessons learned). They will have the biggest chip on their shoulders and look for them to lay some wood. I know LSU brings it, so this should be one of the hardest hitting games of recent memory. Obviously, I like the buckeyes chances here, but I think the mental aspect of ferocious contact will affect the game significantly. 3. O Line. These boys are good, and severely pissed off...I'm hoping we run right at Dorsey (expecting some hecklers here), as I think it's the best way to neutralize him trailing the play. Put the double team on him and run right at him, quickly, before he's had a chance to shed blockers. If the buckeyes can have some moderate success running the football early on, these big uglies will begin to wear down the D Line, though LSU's depth should help to neutralize this, I wouldn't be surprised to see tressel run some no huddle to prevent substitution. Just a few thoughts from the other side, sorry if it doesn't belong on this thread...Now that I'm going to NO, I can barely contain myself.
Very good post buckeye78. I agree that this will be a very physical, hard-hitting ball game. Can't wait until Jan 7th to watch these 2 teams battle it out. :crystal: :champs: :crystal: :champs: :crystal:
Good luck with that. Do you think that hasn't been tried before? Thus far, the only effective neutralizing technique against Dorsey has been the intentional chop block.
Even that wasn't very effective. The very next play he came in he busted up the run in the back field.
Fair enough, but I don't think we'll be intimidated enough not to try, and I think this is our best chance of success. Fortunately for me (and the buckeyes :yelwink2: ), I'm not the coach, just a poster posting his opinion on a good opponent board. We shall see...
Hey, if you want to believe that the reason Miami's program went down the tubes while Coker was there.... is because of a football game in Atlanta in 2005 against LSU, then I obviously would be foolish to try to interject logic to the conversation..... ..... so, my bad.... carry on.
That wasn't my point and neither was it the point of your original post. You said you felt that Miles hasn't proven himself to be a "big game prep" coach. You said that beating Miami and Notre Dame wasn't enough. Now he has to drum Ohio State to convince you he may have some skill in that area. I'm saying he beat 2 decent teams in 2 big bowls and if you can't give him credit then maybe you never will. I'm sure you're convinced that Ferentz is better than Saban, though.
Red I agree with you bro, I have those same concerns. Hopefully we'll have most of that worked out by game time.
