It wasn't a trophy from '58. It was a company who did replica BCS coaches poll trophies, they offered one for the '58, '03, and '07 teams. Cost was roughly $100 ea. I never gave a thought to getting the '58 since there wasn't a BCS back then, but I did want to get one for the '07 championship to go with my '03.
In '58 the polls were the AP and the UPI. I believe that the UPI voters were coaches. I have never thought about whether there were trophies given to the champs in those years but you would think they did. Are there trophies from '58 somewhere in the LSU athletic department? I know they have the school's copy of Billy Cannons 1959 Heisman Trophy bit I have never seen it and I don't know where they keep it. I have seen Billy's copy at T.J.Ribs on Acadian a bunch of times.
I wouldn't have a clue. I'd have to believe they gave LSU something, but I've never been in the football ops building so I wouldn't have a clue. I collect all the waterford crystal trophies from LSU I can find. Currently I only have the 2003/07 waterford crystal paperweight footballs; my 2003 is sequentially numbered 1050/5000, the '07 1404/7500, and I have the 2009 LSU waterford crystal baseball paperweight numbered 380/2009.
