Contained Chaos, I can assure you, if they ever decide to go to the "plus one" format you won't just be reading it one scroll at the bottom of the TV. We would have been debating it along with the press for the past 2 weeks. Don't worry, they won't sneak a decision like that in on us.

Wow... Total BULL****!.... Just because Notre Dame is Notre Dame, they get a big push from the BCS.... And now, they get ****loads of money whether or not they play in a game. As if they lose money over all this.... This really really pisses me off....:po: :po: If they get a share of all the team's money when they don't play... Every other team should get a share of theirs when they DO play in a BCS (I don't predict that to happen in some time..)... Notre Dame, so much media attention... They are worse than USC...

Berge, where did you get that info about Notre Dame? I do not see that in the article loco linked to or in his post.

Well every other team will get a share of ND's payout when they do play. The payout is 1M when they don't play and 4.5M when they do. This is not very generous:

Basically they are trying to make it so that every BCS team gets at least a million a year, which all the BCS conference teams do get, more if they have a second team make the BCS. It's a lot like an NFL system except for the fact that Notre Dame can make much, much more than the rest of the bCS teams if they happen to make the BCS every couple of years.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying, but if you're saying that ND can make a lot more than other teams under this system, I have to disagree. First, unless this was forced on them, ND would be insane to agree to this if they thought they could make the BCS every 5 years, so forget about every 2nd year. It would be 29m vs 19m over 10 yrs when you compare the old to the new with 5 year appearances.

Second, even if they made the BCS every other yr under the new set-up, I'm not sure they would net a lot more than the BCS conference teams. Their expenses have to come out of their share. BCS conference teams probably net a little more than a million after expenses. BCS conferences almost always (always to this point anyway) get more than a single share because of the way they split the excess from multiple team appearances. ND may net somewhat more, but it's not a bonanza.

ya know that's what seemed so weird about the whole thing. the wording made it sound so promising (of course, that was coupled with the crawl practically being on fast-forward). yet i figured surely that if it was what it sounded like, then there would be more info on it somewhere.
