Simply put---our talent in the backcourt has not historically matched our talent in the frontcourt, and Brady and staff are not doing a good job recruiting and coaching up their guards. This has to improve. As much as I love DMitch, he has some of the most turnovers of anybody. If Brady's teams have more turnovers than assists we usually lose and we need the athletic rebounding stats to balance out the turnovers. Tack... this is your chance to shine, let's hope you have a breakout year. Let's keep the chin up... I knew we'd lose some early :geauxtige
did the game stay on directtv after it went off and came on? i trekked through the cold ass rain over to my friends house to watch it and the channel blacked out before the game started. then i talked to directtv on the phone forever, and they didnt help at all. finally i bought the damn geauz zone, thinking it was video. and it was just audio. wtf is wrong in the damn world when between my cable and my friends directtv, neither of us can get the motherfreaking game? even if we pay! its not part of the espn package, and there was no way to buy it, according to the directtv phone guy. i tell ya what, i dont like it one bit.
Do you seriously need to ask this martin? The market wasn't there (in NYC, anyway.) If it was, you would have seen the game in HD. When the demand for the game is reconcilable with the supply of the game, you'll get it. In the meantime, quit wasting your time calling DTV. That's like pushing an electrified rope.
right but isnt the market for a game down south better than a blank screen? it isnt like the game was removed for a st johns or uconn game. broadcasts are not scarce, once you make them, you have infinite copies. why not just show it, because it doesnt cost you anything extra. it drives me nuts that all games are not available by ppv, by pushing a button on the remote. is it too hard to just not give me a blank screen and let the game run, even if i am the only guy up north watching it? (which isnt the case anyway, there are loads of lsu fans everywhere.) i dont understand your supply demand argument. broadcasts are different. not offering this game to me is like not offering some songs to me on itunes because of location. it doesnt cost any extra for delivery. it is already on the satellite, so let me have it! even if i have to pay! i dont understand the point of blank-screening a game (on two f'ing channels) . its not like the broadcast is keeping me from buying a ticket.
This was my first chance to see the Tigers play this year and there are plenty of positives and some negatives with this team. Tmitch and Thomas are going to be special players. I think Thomas may end up being the best of them all ... what incredible hops on this kid. Tmitch certainly doesn't look like a true freshman ... he's really smooth. Dmitch looked great. However, he's no PG. He's a solid 2 with the ability to catch and shoot, or take it to the hole. He looked more under control than last year. Davis is going to find out how frustrating it is to play in this league when refs allow others to beat the hell out of you all game. He was mugged all night long and you could see the frustrations. Not sure you can solve this problem, other than going pro after the season. Might as well get paid to get the hell beat out of you. I liked what I saw out of Voogd. Not physically mature enough to play a lot of minutes in this league yet, but I think he'll turn into a solid PG in the future. I prefer to see him on the court with Dmitch at the 2 versus Temple on the court at the 2 spot. Temple isn't ready to play. Was really disappointed in what I saw and wondered why he was in the game at the end. Lazare was another disappointment. Doesn't look like his offensive game has improved at all. He'll be good off the bench to provide some much needed rest to the starters. Would have liked to see more of Rolle. Way too thin, but looks like he has some skills. Should provide some good backup minutes off the bench. The key to this year's team will be Tack Minor. This team is in desperate need of a PG. If Tack can play under control and run this team without a lot of turnovers, they'll be a solid team and could make some noise in the NCAA tourney. If Tack struggles, I think we'll be lucky to make the NCAA tourney. I won't waste everyone's time with too many Brady comments. I think starting and leaving Lazare and Temple in at the beginning of the 2nd half was a mistake. Should have put Voogd and Thomas in as soon as Houston started to make a run. Also didn't understand waiting so long to call a TO.
Good Basketball Reports Well thought out post, and it's great to get some objective comments from someone who went out and supported the Tigers. I agree with much of this post. I think Temple and Lazare need to up their game and fast. Thomas will be hard to keep on the bench, and the dude hit a three at the end of the game from halfcourt. He's a gamer. I worry about the officiating. This is something you cannot appreciate from the box score. I hope that the refs don't drive big baby to the NBA like they did Shaq. Hopefully the coaching staff will find ways to involve Tyrus and Tasmin in ways down low that keep the pressure off of Glen. Certainly enough talent there to do so. Point Guard.... ? Don't get me started. Yes, Tack's development will be key... something I thought alot about after last season. Tack will be able to push the ball, penetrate, but the key will be his maturation in the department of NOT turning over the ball. Last year, if I remember, he was just over 1 to 1 assists to TOs and this year, you've got to see him between 1.5-2 to 1--if he is, the Tigers will be fine. If he's not, we've got a long, inconsistent season ahead of us. Does anyone know how Tack spent his summer? He's not been allowed to practice with the team, but last year he played summer ball in a Houston league. Listening to Brady's show the other night, he says Tack's in good shape, weight wise--I'm wondering if he's really improved tho'. I'm not yet ready to annoint Voogd as PG of the future either, but he's a decent ball handler--he got like 20+ minutes last night, so I don't think you can say he isn't playing enough, but you make a good point about the 18-3 run by Houston. I'll also say that I hope, like TigerWins, the fans go out and support the young team. This is part of the growing pains for this young team. They realize now what they can accomplish (beating a ranked team on their court for the first time in a long time) but realize how quickly it can be taken away. If the fans continue to support the program, perhaps momentum will build steadily throughout the year.
