LSU (16-8, 11-6 SEC) will next play in Friday’s quarterfinals against the winner of the second-round game between the No. 6 seed and No. 11 South Carolina

net ranking is 29. seems like that should be in range of a 7 seed if they win 2 SEC tourney games

i was thinking about what a drastically different team next years will be.

you guys hate this one v one style they are playing now. well, good news, i think next year will be the opposite. wade is coaching the scheme he thinks he players are made for right now, and next year will be different.

i think if we consider cam thomas the emblem of what this year is, talented scorers not making assists or playing hard defense, then i think next year will be the opposite, long armed effort athelets and assists. in the style of leblanc and gaines.

a staggering amount of scoring will be gone, watford thomas smart and maybe days. assuming thats true, lets guess at the lineup next year. i am gonna try an unorthodox dual ballhander PG lineup:

    1. PG cook
    2. pg2 gaines

backup guards are both scorers, transfer seneca knight and high scoring freshman brandon murray. i think both will play alot. maybe they will start one of them and not really do my kooky double PG lineup. but wade has said he wants his teams to get "older", and we have to assume that means he needs more experience on the court all the time.

they share the ballhandling duties and throw assists to everyone and exhaust opponets with intense effort D

    3. hyatt: starts, but plays the least of the starters. tag teams with wilkinson again.
    4. leblanc, and alex fudge, highly rated athlete with decent and developing ball handling/scoring skills.

    5. shareef. i really hope he can one day get 100% healthy for a long time. supposedly he can shoot, he could play a darius days style inside/outside role, except with length instead of muscle. he could be backed up by jerrel colbert, incoming offensive mindede center.

josh gray would increase his role as big man specialist who plays against big brutes on particular teams. similar role for bradley ezewiro who is not tall but he thicc.

so this team is all length and athletes but not much shooting. could be a real unique style, maybe a run and dunk transition offense, that would be fun. or maybe a VCU press where leblanc and gaines bat away every pass opponents make and smother opposing offense.

leblanc and wilkinson are both basically non-shooting humans, so the other fellas are gonna need to score when those boys are in there. i would like to see one of the PG develop a relationship with wilkinson like waters had with marlon taylor, always lobbing it to him. wlkinson is like a poor mans taylor (nobody jumps as quickly as taylor), he can really jump.

i like how gaines throws wild one handed passes. i think court vision is the hardest thing to learn and he has it. i hope his apparent athleticism can be controlled. he plays out of control at the moment.

Of course I hope we win the tourney, but damn, it's going to be tough to do. Going against three tough opponents in three days. We're going to have to have our A game, both on the floor & on the bench for three straight days.

So if our big 4 leave, WW is going to hit the transfer market, right? No telling what he can pull out of that.

I’m having a growing appreciation for Cam Thomas; bricks are less frustrating than no offense.

I think Wilkinson is a better shooter than you give him credit for, but I like the Taylor comparison. Cook looked pretty damn good the other day, and if WW can reign Gaines in, I really like him. LeBlanc has turned into a beast, I like have a big D guy.

Hyatt is a good replacement if Days leaves. He’s got a nice shot and pretty big body.

Not so sure what O’Neal brings to the table. I don’t know about the guys not contributing this year, so I appreciate the info.
