18-0 after beating Davidson 10-1 last night. I wish this series was in the Box. Are the Tigers going with a weekend SEC rotation of Meirer, Mestapay and Bumstead or is Dirks going to be worked into the lineup the way he has been pitching?
Actually this is a good one to have on the road early in the season. After playing pretty good up to this point against mostly average competition this will give the team a clear picture of where they stand while leaving them almost the entire SEC schedule to work out the kinks. I like to play a high quality team early and know now rather than wait until late and find out we need to work on certain areas. :geaux: :lsug:
I agree with SabanFan, this will be a good measuring stick for us. They may not have played anyone good other than Clemson but when you beat every team into submission in every game, hit 460 with 40 homeruns in 18 games and your pitchers are holding opposing batters below 200 and an ERA below 2 in college baseball your team is pretty darn good, no matter who you're playing. Now that said, we should be just as good as they are and the series is going to be very interesting. I'll be there on Saturday and Sunday weather permitting and can't wait to cheer on the Tigahs. I think Dirks is going to held out in order to replace either Lane or Nate if they get into early trouble. Both have had some troubles with control, Lane with throwing to many strikes or too good of strikes I guess and Nate with throwing too many balls and falling behind hitters. I think Smoke will keep Dirks available to replace whomever is having a bad game. Hopefully LM will get his velocity up a notch so his change-up can be effective.
I'm not worried about the series. I seriously think we'll take atleast 2 of the games. I really like the way we've been playing lately and I think we have the upperhand in playing some quality opponents this year.
First let me state their team batting average is not .460, it's .361. Our is .343. Second they have played the easiest schedule out of any major school in the country. Their schedule rank is in the 100's, ours is around 40. Now, I know they are a good team because I follow college baseball pretty close, but I think we are good enough to take 2 of 3. If we don't I still think we are a good team, and we'll progress. I said at the end of last year to my dad, that we would go all the way with next years team, and I'll stick to that.
By bad, meant to type 360. I agree, I think we will go a long way with this team but never predict a NC as too many things have to go your way but I fell very good about being one of the top 5 programs in the country.
That doesn't seem like a simple inquiry to me, but I couldn't care less how you meant it. I just wanted to add me 2 cents because I was bored.
Does anyone have an idea of what the heck the starting lineup is going to be. Smoke has done so many experiments that I don't know anymore.
My guess: C-Liuzza 1B C Harris 2B Gill SS Horwath 3B Naccarata LF Patterson CF Holt RF Zeringue Against lefties, Naccarata may ride the pine with Clay Harris at 3rd and his brudda at 1st. Friday - Meier Saturday - Mestepay (with a quick hook if he's still not hitting his spots) Sunday - Bumstead (look for Dirks early if Nate has his usual slow start.)
