I'm cp only right now - can someone summarize who pitched and what in general led to giving up 8 runs then getting them all back in one inning.
According to NOLA.com it was 6 singles, 4 walks and a hit batter that gave us the 8 runs. WM starter gave up a single to start the 6th and he was pulled. Ott retired them in order in the 9th for the save. Apparently we got some decent relief after Ross and Alsup. Alsup pitched to 6 batters and didn't get an out.
Ross pitched a no-hitter through 4 innings before he started losing his control. Alsup had as horrible of a game as you can have as a reliever, he faced 6 batters and gave up 6 hits and 4 runs. Tiger offense finally woke up in the 6th in a big way. Very weird game overall.
Attendance: 10663 Weather: 56 degrees, fair Game notes: Actual Attendance: 5966 hmmm, lots of no shows.
Biggest comeback for the Tigers since around 1988 when they were down 10 and came back to win. Here, we were down 8 and came back. Got all those runs back in one inning too.
Junior Austin Ross had a perfect game for the first 4 innings (4 straight 1-2-3 innings with 6 strike outs). Then in the top of the 5th, he gave up 4 runs on 4 hits (a solo homer scored the first one, a double followed by a single scored the second one. Right after that, Ross walked a guy, putting runners on 1st and 2nd... and a guy came up and hit them both home with a double to give them four runs in the Top of the 5th). Ross was able to get two strike-outs in the inning (giving him a total of 8 strike-outs for the game). To start the 6th inning, Junior Ben Alsup took the mound and he got destroyed... he gave up a solo homer (run #5), then five straight hits for runs #6, 7, and 8. Then, Junior Mitch Mormann came in for Alsup, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs. Mormann struck out the first guy. 1 out. The next guy grounded to Nola, who threw out the runner at home. 2 outs. The next guy fouled out to RF. 3 outs. For the next two innings, Mormann only gave up 1 run on 3 hits. For his efforts, Mormann was named Player of the Game. The W&M starting pitcher threw a shut-out for the first 5 innings, allowing 5 hits. Then in the bottom of the 6th, LSU started lighting him up. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases, then Delatte got an RBI single (run #1), then Watkins got an RBI single (run #2). Then W&M put a new pitcher in, and Nola hit a 2-RBI single (runs #3 and #4), then Dean hit an RBI ground-out (run #5), then Gibbs hit an RBI single (run #6), then a wild pitch scored Hanover from third (run #7), then a walk loaded the bases again, then another walk scored Gibbs from third (run #8), then LSU grounded out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
early season game against a team no one ever heard of in un-baseball weather will get you some no-shows
