i take full responsibility for last night's loss.

1st game of the year in which I didn't listen to a single pitch.

my apologies to all of Tiger Nation.

I won't let it happen again.

The Kansas coach is now 4-0 versus LSU since he's been the Jayhawk head coach.

As for Coach Mainieri, he wasn't pleased with the LSU players' performance last night:

"we didn’t pitch well, we played poor defense, and we really didn’t hit all that well either," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "Kansas played a great game...we have to play much better because they have an outstanding ball club."

Kansas hands No. 1 LSU first loss of season

You could make a case that this guy is a top-of-the-line NCAA pitcher. These people ranked him the #51 best-overall NCAA baseball player for 2010: link. That's better than they ranked any LSU pitcher except for Ranaudo (#1) and Ott (#45). None of those good Pepperdine pitchers we faced even made their Top 100.

You can read what they wrote about him here: link.
Most impressive was how, last summer, he was selected to :usaflagwathe USA Collegiate National Team:usaflagwa, for whom he had a 2.89 ERA, 22 strikes outs, and only 6 walks in 18.2 innings.

And LSU did pretty well against him yesterday.

In the first six innings, LSU got 4 runs on 6 hits against him
In the 7th inning, LSU got 3 runs on 3 hits against him

Before he faced LSU, he had a 1.80 ERA in 20 innings this season. After LSU, he has a 3.81 ERA in 27 innings this season.

    LSU starters:

    Batting lineup
    1. Watkins LF
    2. Nola SS
    3. Dean 1B
    4. Gibbs C
    5. Hanover 2B
    6. Landry DH
    7. Mahtook RF
    8. Delatte 3B
    9. Dishon CF (some people have been saying that Dishon, who is speedy, might beat out Landry at OF this season, so this is interesting. However, Landry is DH instead of Gaudet).

    -----------------CF Dishon-----------------
    ----LF Watkins--------------RF Mahtook----

    ----------SS Nola-----2B Hanover---------
    --3B Delatte---P Ross----1B Dean

    -----------------C Gibbs------------------

Top of the 1st... Ross on the mound for LSU:
    --single, runner on 1st
--popout to CF Dishon, 1 out, runner on 1st
--walk, runners on 1st and 2nd, 1 out
--single to LF, run scores (Run #1 for KU)
    --walk, bases loaded, 1 out
--Sac fly to Watkins, 2 outs (Run #2 for KU)
--Hit to RF, and Mahtook makes a great catch to end the inning with two runners still on base!

    2-0 Kansas
