Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... I think you have it! Parents are naturally going to enroll their children in team sports that they enjoy as well. If given a choice between batting averages, ERAs and RBIs or touchdowns, field goals and kick offs I believe most will choose the latter of the two.
Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... Yes but that is true of Southerners as a whole when it comes to hockey. Never seen Bubba on the ice for the Red Wings... have you?
Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... I dunno, there was a hockey boom in the south back when we got the Kingfish. Were any of those players actually from Louisiana?
Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... The Kingfish, Ice Gators and Brass mostly had guys from the North and Canada if I remember correctly...
Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... Southern kids just don't get into hockey. Hockey only prospers in places where the ponds freeze in the winter. The reason poor kids don't play college baseball is that no full scholarships are offered. The minor leagues will offer a paying job to most 18-year-olds that are major college prospects.
Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... Good point. Not that it has a danged thing to do with the original post but this got me thinking about the decline in youth baseball that I witnessed in Baton Rouge in the 80s. One reason. Having said that, F**K Soccer. :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:
Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... Growing up in the 80s I don't even think I knew what soccer was. T-Ball and then baseball all the way, baby!
Re: LSU99, Much of what you say is correct.... I know! All the guys stopped playing in the Babe Ruth League and started playing "Select" with soccer. Baseball players are so much hotter than soccer players!!!
