He got a single and a walk against a decent looking lefty yesterday so maybe he can build on that.

I'm not sure we've played enough quality competition to judge anything yet. South Carolina will be the test.

I agrree with G_MAN, I am saving my opinion until we get into SEC play. One thing I do know from going to school in Funroe and following Smoke's teams, he is a big believer in small ball and good pitching. He doesn't live and die by the long ball.

There are still some things that need to be worked on. Too often this year there have been runners at 2B with 0 outs where we fail to advance them, let alone drive them in. Popups and strikeouts are inexcuseable when all you're asked to do is advance a runner over. We need to get better at getting a clutch hit to drive a run or two in. We're getting a lot of baserunners, but not taking full advantage of it.

The pitching has been excellent so far, but I think we'll know a lot more about it when we face a more potent lineup (like South Carolina). It's a helluva lot easier to get out of a bases loaded jam when you're up 8-1 than it is when you're down 2-1.

No matter what happens in Columbia, playing the toughest team from the East on the road to open the SEC schedule will greatly benefit us later in the season.
