Sure, the agents are predators...and the players are like kids in a candy store. Part of the problem is that these athletes can't have outside jobs, they can't have summer jobs, they can't even be student workers. Most of them are from lower income families and they produce millions of dollars of revenue for the universities and the NCAA corporation. When someone offers to fly them to a party (like vendors would do to a group of oil field purchasing agents)....what do you really expect them to do?? The student athletes wouldn't even say no to a free meal worth $20. They're not thinking about secondary violations or anything. The NCAA rules are ridiculously strict. Maybe not so much in this instance involving agents, but in general...they really are.
They can have student worker jobs and summer jobs outside of the university as well. There are some strict rules associated with them though.
If so the compliance dept needs to get out in front of this thing yesterday. All need to play their cards right and not try the shuck and jive routine that Dez tried to do. Had he been legit with them he would have been able to play... or so they say.
Maybe there are no rules against it...but "voluntary" offseason workout are probably how you get to keep your schollie. Isn't football conditioning year round now-a-days?
That's what I was worried about...specifically. He's gonna be a high draft pick, and he also happens to be from Miami. Scary...
Many NCAA athletes do both voluntary workouts and work when they have the time. I don't believe you can put any athlete on salary because it goes against the NCAA rule of only being compensated for time worked and they know work schedules for student athletes are very sporadic.
Thats a good thing, I dont think going to a party is a huge deal but how they got there is where it gets tricky, good thing PP is from that area.
agreed. Saban is a hypocrite. Hell, the NCAA's new bump rule isn't called the Saban Rule by accident ....
