I know Saban was reprimanded in '01 for improper contact with recruits and his number of recruiting visits were limited during the spring of '02. It was self-imposed and accepted by the NCAA.

    Was this deal in '01?

I think it was...if you'll look at one of the recruiting data-bases and see what year Darby and Robinson signed you'd have your answer...I'm in the middle of a slight meltdown at work and just wanted to stick my head in for a few minutes to distract myself...

Would you consider it delusional to know that there are 3 different schools (2 other than Bama) he's voiced interest in? All in the SEC?

Call it what you want, but contact has happened again in the last couple of days...and he's (and his agent) are refusing to comment publically on it while those teams still have coaches?

Jimmy Sexton is the best agent in the business and you can bet he is talking everywhere and promoting his clients. LSU got Nick because Jimmy Sexton made sure LSU knew he could be approached for the right deal--and he was trying to sell us Tuberville at the time! Nick talked face-to-face with pro teams every single year he was at LSU and his name was mentioned any time a major college job came open.

Jimmy Sexton probably mentions Nick on a weekly basis to some team or another. Will he court Bama and test the waters? . . . you bet your ass. Will he let it leak so that Nicks current employers know about it? . . you bet your ass. One of the reasons that Nick became the highest paid coach in college football was that Sexton regularly let LSU know that he was floating other deals out there involving Nick.

Nick came to LSU because it was a school that he thought he could win a national championship at. He stayed until he did it. He went to the NFL for a reason, too. I think he's staying there until he achieves his goals. With a 25 million dollar guaranteed contract with the Fins, I think he'll be there another 2 or 3 of years before giving up. There will alwasy be another NFL or college job for Nick, he ain't exactly deperate.

And I don't think he's the coach that Bama needs. Nick wouldn't stay long and the deal he would insist on would give him complete control of the football program because he's a control freak. Bama likely has too many high-level interests close to the program to give him that. Bama needs someone to stay at Bama a while because he loves it.

Too bad Gene Stallings wasn't a younger man.

Saban will not leave the Fins untill he has turned that program around. He has all the money he needs,it's a pride thing with him now.

Exactly. For what he was looking for, the Dolphins job is the perfect opprotunity. He has full and control and a boat load of money. I suspect family issues or a firing will be the only reason he leaves.

That's goes directly against what the sports agents are saying...they insist he wants out of the NFL, is tired of dealing with that type of mentality, and wants to return to the college game. He's been spouting that "last stop" line you've heard so many times.

I don't know how to take him, honestly. I sort of feel like it would be making a deal with the devil. (just using a cliche', not an accusation)

I'm just guessing, but I think Saban stays with the fins at least two more years. I agree he is goal driven, and he wants to turn around the fins and win a division championship, maybe later a super bowl. But he's got to get them turned around first.
