I attended my first game at Tiger Stadium this past year when Bama played LSU. All I heard was how horrible LSU fans were and to watch out because I was probably going to get into a fight etc. I went to the game, had a blast, talked some good football with some great LSU fans and walked back to my vehicle (that was still in one piece). I would venture to say that in most of these "horror" stories being told by both Bama fans and LSU fans regarding the other's "classlessness" it is probably just a case of "You'll usually find what you go looking for..." :thumb:
You are right. I remember back when we finally beat you guys, the 20-10 game. A few of my cousins made the road trip and came back amazed at what nice people they met, how complimentary all the Bama fans were afterwards. Of course, my sister has an in-law that played for lefire: in the 70s, and all he can talk about are the bottles thrown at him everywhere he played. I say that's what he gets for playing for that @$%*# team.
No doubt, the majority of college sports fans are o.k. Unfortunately, it's the few who are out of the box who draw the attn. Nice post. :thumb:
I wouldn't say he isn't classy, it was just an odd statement, with the history between Ole Siss. You can't just wipe it under the rug and declare a new number 1 rival. I just can't say I hate LSU. I don't even disrespect them. I dunno it just doesn't feel like that good old fashion hate your guts rivalry alot of SEC teams have. I guess eventually it could grow to that maybe. History creates rivalry, and theres just no other feeling like a rivalry game outside of the Championship games.
And it's not. Our "rivalry" is against Auburn and has been for years and years. I would suspect Miles was just playing to the crowd getting everybody jacked up. But if he truly feels that Bama is LSU's biggest rivalry then he better get in line because Auburn, Tennessee are running one and two for us. But Tennessee is more of a hatred than a rivalry. When Double-D is fired or retires that game's "intensity" will probably take a huge hit.
For myself, Alabama is a good game, usually some great football, and hopefully the LSU/Alabama game will grow in importance in the SEC over the next few years (while Saban stays there). But, I must tell you that Ole Miss is the team I always want LSU to beat and beat bad - not just win, but crush. Some of that may come from growing up in the 60's, some of it may come from growing up in North Louisiana where Ole Miss has a larger fan base than in other parts of the state. ldskule:
I think historically Ole Miss is LSU's true "rivalry". I know older LSU fans will definitely say that Ole Miss is their rivalry.
I am like you. I don't go to the stadium for games, just kinda enjoy them on TV. I think that's why I don't hate any opposing fans. Most of them I meet on TF are pretty good folks. Our hottest rival now is Auburn, because in the last 6 years, they have been close games that decided the SEC west. Bama got interesting when satan went over there, but they'll have to become more competitive before they get to Auburns level. Who would you bet on next year to win the SEC west? LSU, Auburn, Arky, same usual suspects. Arky will be interesting to watch, after the circus show they just ran, with Malzahn leaving, and Mustain. Too bad McFadden tossed his career on the pigs. Although he may get a Heisman out of it yet, he's that good.
I see your swartz is as big as mine! Hey, I was in Wetumpka Saturday night. Didn't get to see much of the town. I sing in a quartet, and we had a concert there.
Well after indepth discussion with Fishhead we came to the conclusion Arkansas is in Fact... Corky from Life Goes on. It's just that McFadden factor that hangs in the back of your mind. I can't see how LSU won't be favored for the West.
